I see you've been here quite a while, but I thought maybe we could remove that redlink for your user talk :-P. Nishkid64 19:26, 15 January 2007 (UTC)Reply
It's never too late to be welcomed ;) --Dapeteばか 19:35, 15 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

Random article edit

Hi! I like your random article feature for the excellent and readworthy pages in the German Wikipedia; would it be possible to get the same thing for the Norwegian Wikipedia? The pages and categories, respectively, are no:Wikipedia:Utmerkede artikler/no:Kategori:Utmerkede artikler and no:Wikipedia:Anbefalte artikler/no:Kategori:Anbefalte artikler. It's good I designed this with extensibility in mind :) I had to change a few things so this works with the talk pages in the category, but here it is: utmerkede artikler and anbefalte artikler. --Dapeteばか 08:50, 17 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

Little Catgraph extension edit

Hi Dapete,

  • I made a user.js to add two buttons on category pages for catgraph. See here.
  • Using your fabulous tool for some time I got one little idea for an extension: A backlink from the catgraph to the underlying category page would be usefull to view the contents and to do editing of the category. Just a suggestion.

Catgraph version without hidden categories edit

Hi! Is there a way to put an alternativ version beside the current catgraph version? The alternativ catgraph version should ignore the hidden categories. Thanks for Catgraph and for reading my suggestion. --Diwas 09:49, 19 October 2009 (UTC)Reply

I have added this as an additional option - on http://toolserver.org/~dapete/catgraph/ there is a new checkbox "Ignore hidden categories" (which adds &ignorehidden=1 at the end of the URL). --dapete 16:46, 8 November 2009 (UTC)Reply
Thank you so much, this is, of course, the better way. --Diwas 13:27, 25 December 2009 (UTC)Reply

Subcategories on Catgraph? edit

Hi, I'm getting only one level of subcategories when I use Catgraph, even when I specify 3 levels:

http://toolserver.org/~dapete/catgraph/graph.php?wiki=commons&lang=en&cat=Knowledge&d=3&n=0&format=png&small=1&links=0&sub=1&fdp=0 compare to http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Category:Knowledge Kostmo 06:11, 8 November 2009 (UTC)Reply

Hi Kostmo, Catgraph automatically reduces the depth level so there are no more than 100 categories in total (to reduce load on the toolserver and to avoid serving web browsers with too big images) - which limits the level to 1 in this case. If you wish to get them all, you can change the format to format=dot and feed this output to en:Graphviz yourself to convert it to an image. I have tried it myself, though, and don't think this will help you much. Level 2 doesn't really show much structure, and level 3 is just too big to be useful at all - Graphviz will not even make the image at full size and scales it to 30%, which is completely illegible. --dapete 11:54, 8 November 2009 (UTC)Reply

Catgraph source code edit

Hello Dapete,

thank you very much for Catgraph - a really useful tool, not only for Wiki-editors but also for users.

I wanted to peek at the source code but it seems the link is broken. Is there any other place where one can download the source?

I hope you'll still come back to read this - I know it isn't working, the system was changed a long time ago, but I never got it fixed. I have put the current source code up on the toolserver, you can get it either as a ZIP or a tar.gz file. --dapete 16:49, 5 April 2010 (UTC)Reply
