Re: German translation of Mayflower edit

Hey Cosicosa, thank you very much for your German translation of Mayflower! I've uploaded your translation, and it should now be available at http://tools.wikimedia.de/~tangotango/mayflower/?il=de . One thing that is of concern is that the "Bitte ein oder zwei Wörter eingeben, die die gesuchten Medien beschreiben:" string appears to be a little bit too long to fit on the start page; would it be possible to make this slightly shorter so that it fits in the interface? MF_NOP_LEADER is fine :-) (You can also leave it blank if you want) I think your addition (about searching in English) is also very appropriate. Thanks!! -- Tangotango 03:01, 27 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

Hi Tangotango, you are welcome! Yes, I tried it and already discovered a small mistake of mine.
I shortened the query prompt (no please any longer now) … I hope people understand "Medienbeschreibung" (media description).
Then I removed the German stopwords, since they are not in the repertoire.
I added to MF_NO_RESULTS_FOUND:
Versuchen Sie, Umlaute und "ß" aufzulösen (try to resolve Umlauts):
This means: ä→ae, ö→oe, ü→ue, ß→ss. You can put this in ( ) brackets, if you like. After all, Umlauts are still Latin …
Versuchen Sie Koppelwörter getrennt (try concatenated, coupled, linked words divided):
This means: Landgerichtsparkhaus→Landgericht Parkhaus and relates to the characteristic of the German language to concatenate words (p.s.: Land·gericht(s)·park·haus means District Court Parking Garage ; )
Well, there are two or three hints I could add, but maybe we better stay concise. Will corrections to the language files be reflected by the tool automatically (are taken from there at runtime) or do you monitor the pages?
I like the small license icons from Commons very much—and am thinking of another function: to display an icon if the file has a geocode/geotag. Maybe easy to implement, should technically be the same as the license information …

Okay, thanks for the updates! I've updated the copy on the toolserver now. (I have to do it manually for security reasons.) Please check to see that everything is all right. The custom German-only suggestions are fine. :-) The geocodes idea sounds rather interesting. Although I don't want to overburden every query, I'll see if that is possible, as I would really like to see Mayflower look at the many tags and categories that exist on Commons. Cheers, and thanks once again, Tangotango 14:47, 27 May 2007 (UTC)Reply
Everything works fine! Best, Cosicosa 14:57, 27 May 2007 (UTC)Reply
Hi Cosicosa, thank you very much for your new translation strings!! I've updated the copy on the toolserver, although the new strings won't appear until the new Mayflower (Mayflower 2.00) goes live. If you want, you can look at an early version at http://tools.wikimedia.de/~tangotango/mayflower/beta/ . Cheers, Tangotango 12:01, 17 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

Thank you for updating the translation. The new version is now on the toolserver; please check to see if it looks all right. Thanks! - Tangotango 08:59, 25 July 2007 (UTC)Reply
