BMJ account redistribution (The Wikipedia Library)

edit

Hi - according to our records you received a free account for BMJ through The Wikipedia Library. Because we’ve used up all of our allocated accounts, and it’s been some time since they were distributed, we want to redistribute any accounts that aren’t being used to users on our waitlist.

If you’re still using, or plan to use, your BMJ access, no problem! Simply head over to the Library Card platform, log in, and request a renewal of your account. You should be able to do this from your user page, or the BMJ signup page. If you can’t find the renewal button, or have any other issues or questions about this, please feel free to leave a message on my talk page. We’ll begin redistributing inactive accounts in a few weeks; if you request renewal after then we should still be able to reactivate your account if we have spots remaining. Thanks, MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 12:16, 4 September 2018 (UTC)Reply

Να 'μαι

edit

CEE Spring and Wikipedia cooperation

edit

Geia sou, my friend, hope you are doing well! You may not recognise the username but this is en:User:GGT, I use an alternative account with a simpler name on en.wiki to make everyone's life easier! :) Just a bit of background about the CEE Spring contest.

This is an annual editing contest where users from different countries around Central and Eastern Europe create/develop articles about other countries in their own languages. Say, someone from Hungary creates an article about Armenia. I realised a couple of days ago that Cyprus is missing from this contest, and in order to get involved ASAP, I created a list about the north. Now, we're trying to make this bicommunal, which is the way it should be anyway. This is basically a list of articles that we, as Wikipedians from Cyprus, recommend that people from other countries work on. It is optional, so they can create other articles too, but they can use this as a rough guide.

As you can see in the list, there are lots of Turkish Cypriot names, and I've tried to add in some Greek Cypriot names too. As a general rule of thumb, I'm trying to avoid topics that most languages will have covered by now - e.g. the big cities, major topics such as the Cyprus dispute or the Turkish invasion of Cyprus. What would be very useful is if you could kindly select some articles, especially from the Greek Cypriot community, that we can add to this list. You can either add these to the page by adding their Wikidata item numbers, or you can tell me which ones you'd like to be added and I can add them for you.

That being said, this has prompted an idea for me - perhaps we could also use this as a starting point to create a list of core articles about Cyprus that we'd like to achieve detailed coverage on Greek, Turkish and English Wikipedias. I have access to some Turkish Cypriot sources as well as a large university library in the UK, and I'm aware that you have access to a number of very good sources too. This would be a great opportunity to kickstart some bicommunal cooperation on this in a time when such initiatives are precious - and perhaps work towards reactivating the Wikimedia User Group Cyprus.

Let me know what you think. Best wishes,

Hi Seksen iki yüz kırk beş I am so thrilled to hear from you after so long! I feel like meeting an old friend! I hope you and your loved ones are ok during this awful pandemic. Ok, I get it how it is done and I already have in mind some articles. I will try to add them tomorrow. It would be very interesting having a small group of articles in EN, EL and TR with the same content. I am not sure if it is achievable but worth to try. Sadly, I have much less free time than 2 years ago, but advancing science and knowlwdge of our common history skipping borders really excites me! So happy to see you again! Likewise, and I hope that you and your loved ones are doing OK as well. I don't think that we need to have the same content for pages on all three languages, indeed that might be impossible, but we can make sure that each language has good coverage of topics that are important, especially for the "other" community. I have been more active on tr.wiki recently and that is something I have felt to be lacking. I hope this might be a good resource in the future for those looking to understand more about the common history and heritage. I am really pressed for time these days too, so there is definitely no rush - I am thinking long term. I am also really happy to hear that you have articles in mind already - looking forward to seeing them added. --Seksen iki yüz kırk beş (talk) 01:43, 23 March 2021 (UTC)Reply
