My problem/fix was only done on MW 1.6.8 or above. I would try upgrading to 1.6.8 (or, if your server can support it, 1.7.x). I know it's not a very helpful fix, but I never really used anything between 1.4 and 1.6.8, so I can't be a lot of help. Sorry it took me so long to get back go you, and good luck!
