About me
Usefulness section. Skip to "My work".
I kind of adapt to other-people software but please be nice with me: sooner or later you will find out that I'm that sort of "tech vegan" and I love GNU/Linux. I have a phone without the Google Play Store and without proprietary apps. I don't have WhatsApp. I don't participate to Zoom Meetings. I do this since, as a software developer, I am now aware of how much power a software has on its users, also in terms of security and surveillance, and I sincerely feel unsafe generally if I have not control of my devices. I'm sure my software choices can be respected, without creating a problem to other people (and vice-versa).
My relationship with Wikimedia projects started as volunteer in 2013 in itwiki. As a volunteer, I am author and maintainer of several automated bots and I like to be involved in technical contributions and bug fixes. As volunteer I like contributing on software-related topics and to Wikimedia Cloud projects.
My global volunteer info can be found here with declaration of interests:
My local volunteer info can be found here:
In 2019 I met User:Ilario (WMCH) in person during an hackathon in which I was invited as itwiki technical contributor. After that, I started to have professional collaborations with Wikimedia CH, mainly involved as GNU/Linux systems engineer and full-stack software developer, as freelance.
In 2020 I've found a partner on this wiki. I love this person more than Phabricator (believe me or not). WMCH is aware of this potential conflict of interest.
In 2021 I was elected as board director of Italian Linux Society, the national association supporting FLOSS in Italy since 1994. No conflicts of interests to be declared.
In 2024 I proposed the new Information Technology Strategy of Wikimedia CH with many suggestions from the experience of hackers from Italian Linux Society and friends.
In 2024 I was elected as volunteer president of Italian Linux Society. No extra conflicts of interests to be declared.
In 2024 I've found you!
I hope to continue to find time to contribute together as a volunteer, and also have the opportunity to work on something I believe in, for Wikimedia CH.
My work
I am not employed in Wikimedia CH. I work as ICT consultant in an unrelated company in Torino, and WMCH occasionally allocates me under a "person for rent" program. This is my specific Wikimedia account for such occasions.
I'm usually activated every Thursday and Friday 09:00-18:00 by User:Ilario (WMCH).
I started contributing with WMCH in 2019, as freelance, always activated by User:Ilario as my manager. I met Ilario during the 2019 hackathon in Zurich.
Since 2020 the kind of collaborations I had with WMCH were too little continuous, so I accepted to stop to be a freelance, to be acquired in a company in Torino. So, nowadays, my working contributions continue as full-time in this ICT company in Torino, as their principal GNU/Linux sysadmin; and WMCH can activate me on-demand, like a "person for rent" program".
In this company in Torino I have a fixed salary, and permanent contract, there is no correlation between how much I earn, and how much I work for Wikimedia CH.
My salary in Torino is ~ 10 EUR NET / hour.
Recent activity
I love to describe WMCH progresses here:
I love to organize any work related to WMCH in Wikimedia Phabricator:
I am available to be contacted on the discussion page with any questions about some of my past, or future, collaborations.
Thank you!
Conflicts of Interests
At the moment (2024) I have no known conflicts of interest when I work for WMCH. My manager User:Ilario is aware of my private declaration of interests. The public and most relevant ones are here:
When WMCH allocates me, I do not receive any financial benefit (apart from the benefit of doing something that I think is more useful to the world) since I don't work for WMCH but for that external company I mentioned, and I have a fixed salary from Torino, not related to my collaborations with WMCH.
