Series of Mini Edit-a-thons edit

Previous work:

From October, A2K conducted a series of edit-a-thon to created or developed content on the Wiki project. Till February, 4 Mini Edit-a-thons has been done. The purpose of these events was to develop content about a specific topic on Indic Wikipedias. The first mini edit-a-thon was Mahatma Gandhi 2020 edit-a-thon. During the event, we tried to find out a new area of interest. We didn't restrict it to one wiki project only, rather than, we opened it to work in any area of the project. Volunteers worked enthusiastically and 61 editors gave their name but edit done by 42 users. We planned for the 2nd mini-edit-a-thon under the name of Festive Season 2020 edit-a-thon. The rules and guidelines were the same but topic were different. This time 78 editors edited out of 98 users. The third one was Wikipedia 20th anniversary celebration edit-a-thon and during this mini edit-a-thon purpose was celebrating Wikipedia anniversary. This event was restricted to Wikipedia only where editors created or developed articles. A total of 55 volunteers added their name but 40 users worked during the event. The last event was Wikidata:WikiProject India/Events/International Mother Language Day 2021 - Label-a-thon which was one-day label-a-thon. During the event, users added Labels, descriptions and Alias about Indian languages, dialects, famous authors, award winners or so on.

Impact of previous work:

A2K conducted this 4 mini edit-a-thon only when people were worried about the pandemic and the environment around them. A2K tried to engage people with the Wiki activities because for the last few months everything was shut down. A2K planned for a mini edit-a-thon to know how people will respond to the online events. Then, we found volunteers responded well to after a long time activity. We got a good amount of the content during the first edit-a-thon then we decided to go ahead with the idea. The motive behind the series was creating or developing content on local Wiki projects as well on Wikimedia Commons. And for tracking the outputs of the event, please visit the event pages (which links are provided above).

New Idea:

A2K has good experience related to Online or Offline events and Edit-a-thons are one of those. Communities are also aware enough about that content what is important for their local Wikis. The area we are finding that we will work on the quality of content on local Wiki projects.

Why?

A2K seeks to engage people with On-Wiki activities. After the Pandemic, activities have been affected and we are trying to encourage volunteers for giving their support. There is a lot of content on the wiki where no one work on again after updated once. For engaging or attracting more readers and promoting Wiki, Wiki projects need to be fine by content. Readers will believe in content only when content quality will be in good condition. And A2K will work on the area to aware communities to work on qualitative content as well.

What?

We will work on it further.

  • Will work on the structure of this series.
  • Will work on quality of content.
  • To make sure content is in good condition to readers and they can get enough knowledge.
  • To edit those articles which never edited after their creation in Indic languages.
  • To encourage volunteers to develop their articles and follow the good article policy.
  • Also will work on stub articles.

Briding Gender Gap Plan edit

Previous plan:

A2K trying to engage female editors in the wiki activities. For finding the problem of the female editors A2K published a report on the Bridging Gender Gap research.

A2K was keenly interested to promote impressive or important ideas or volunteers in front of others to know about the background of the idea or the individual. We tried to talk to a few volunteers about their wiki idea and their journey. The way of taking was an interview which was conducted in the written form on the google doc. The interview was conducted in the comfort of Wikimedians. The first interview was planned for Wiki Women for Women Wellbeing (WWWW) idea. That was a campaign that engaged female leaders at the same time with different communities. The interview was taken by Manavpreet Kaur who was the leader or core of the idea.

The link for the published article.

What's New:

We will go ahead with the interview taken the idea and will promote more volunteers on the national level at least.

What?

BGG is an important topic in the Wiki world. A2K did research on it either. Now, A2K will take an initiative for implementation. A2K will try to work in the area on the primary bases.

Why?

As our statistics say Gender gap is a major problem in the Wikimedia movement. We need to more focus on it and more work on it. Inter
