Education edit

I was previously based at the University of the West of England where I studied for my BSc(Hons) Biological Sciences and MRes Applied Sciences.

During my BSc, I focussed my degree on the more molecular areas of Biology, but also maintained an interest in environmental microbiology. My final year research project involved isolating bacteria from environmental sources of water, and testing them for antimicrobial activity.

I completed my MRes under the supervision of Professor Dawn Arnold, where I created a Transposon mutant library in a strain of the plant pathogen Pseudomonas syringae, in order to identify genes important in pathogenicity.

Following my MRes, I began studying for my PhD titled 'Elucidation of Cacao swollen shoot disease Pathogenesis', supervised by Dr Andy Wetten. During this time, I was involved in the publication of a paper in which myself and my colleagues described a novel badnaviral sequence integrated in the cacao genome.

Currently I work for Forest Research at their Alice Holt site in Surrey as a Plant pathologist. I am involved in the BAC-STOP project, specifically work package one, which aims to identify the interaction between Agrilus biguttatus and bacteria associated with lesions formed in Acute Oak Decline.
