CEE Meeting 2017 Lightning Talks Ideas - "5 ideas in 5 minutes"
Building open coalitions throughout the region for more impactful work on advocacy

In CEE region we have various open coalitions where local Wikimedia affiliates are taking part (e.g. Poland, Czech Republic, Austria, Germany). These coalitions have proven to be good platforms for collective work in advocacy and increasing awareness regarding copyright, licenses and open or free culture in general.

However, we have used these coalitions mostly in local level and we are lacking a systematic way how to actually use these coalitions in international (read EU) policy making and advocacy. I believe that creating more local open coalitions and connecting them internationally is an excellent way to build an active advocacy taskforce in Europe and actually have a good counter-balance the lobbying of big corporations. This could be a good network to support our EU policy team in their efforts improving the environment for Wikimedia projects in Europe.
