Michele Failla
Senior EU Law & Policy Advisor, Wikimedia Europe

About me

Before joining Wikimedia Europe, in April 2023, I worked at CSA (Conséil superieur de l'audiovisuel) as EU Affairs Advisor, where among other things I dealt with the works of ERGA (European Regulators Group for Audiovisual Media Services) and contributed running the 2022 ERGA chairmanship. Previously, I worked in the European Parliament, as Legal and Political Advisor, dealing with a plethora of subjects ranging from EU copyright rules, media law, to cultural and constitutional issues, including parliamentary ethics & transparency as well as rules of procedures. My interests are the protection of fundamental rights such as freedom of expression, privacy & access to information, media law & policy, EU law, democratic theories & e-democracy, new technologies, cooperative projects, degrowth & the commons.

My work

As part of Wikimedia Europe, my job is to ensure that Wikimedia projects and the Wikimedia movement are preserved when a new piece of legislation is passed. We do our best to ensure that lawmakers widely understand the Wikimedia model and respect its functioning and values. In this sense, I closely work with the Foundation's public policy team and the European national chapters.
