User:Kelsington/Deletion process overhaul

(English) This is an essay. It expresses the opinions and ideas of some Wikimedians but may not have wide support. Requests for deletion should be overhauled, I believe.

I am proposing the following changes:

  • Discussion should be open for at least 7 days.
  • Three new deletion processes - Images for deletion (IfD), Essays for deletion (EfD) and Categories for Deletion (CfD). All should last 7 days.
  • Obvious candidates (i.e. those which are listed at VfD but are really speedy candidates) should be closed immediately and archived.

Images for deletion edit

Already used on several Wikipedias, it is a necessary thing to have here, as at the moment VfD is currently "everything-and-anything" with regards to pages. A separate page, Meta:Images for deletion and then a date listing, e.g. Meta:Images for deletion/12 July 2007 etc. would be the way to do it. Unlike VfD, these should not be closed after 7 days, but until sufficient proof of licensing and other related stuff is needed. Basically, close when consensus is gained. Also, image moves should be turned on across Wikimedia projects - I tested it on my own wiki, and it would save work for admins with regard to people asking "why can't I move this image?"
