"Never doubt that a small group full of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world; indeed, it's the only thing that ever has." - Margaret Mead

About me

I joined the Wikimedia Foundation as a Communications Intern in January 2017, after discovering their inspiring mission to "empower and engage people around the world to collect and develop educational content, and to disseminate it effectively and globally."

This mission aligned perfectly with my goals, interests, and academic training. In December 2016, I graduated with a BA in Political Science with an emphasis in Communications from Idaho State University. During my time at ISU, my studies and research mainly focused on education, communications, international relations, and civic engagement. I received many employment opportunities through the university which helped me to gain skills in these areas.

Most recently I worked as the Public Relations Intern for the ISU Political Science Department. I also served as secretary for the ASISU Student Government and as an Intern for Senator Mike Crapo. During the summer, I was a supplemental instructor for disadvantaged youth in the Bengal Bridge program at ISU, teaching courses and tutoring in American Government, Civic Engagement, and Service Learning. I also had the amazing opportunity to spend 18 months in the Dominican Republic on a service mission from March 2013-September 2014. I became fluent in Spanish during my time there and spent my days teaching the wonderful people and embracing their rich culture.

My work

As a Communications Intern for the Learning and Evaluation Team, I am involved in supporting the Communications and Outreach Coordinator in preparation for Wikimedia community conferences and presentations. I help plan workshops and community events for program leaders and help document the outcome of those events. I also coauthor blog posts and support to other communications to program leaders and the broader community to share learning. I am just beginning my adventure with Wikimedia and I am very grateful and excited for the opportunity to learn from this experience.
