About me

I've been working in the cultural sector for 14 years, leading teams to deliver both digital and exhibition programs. My most recent project was a radically inclusive permanent gallery at Wellcome Collection in London. Past museums have included The Museum of Modern Art (New York), Royal Museums Greenwich (London), and the Science Museum (London).

I started my career producing online communities and multiplayer games, so I have always been interested in facilitating the meaningful participation of the public. In museums, that translated to citizen science projects and an annual photography competition at Royal Museums Greenwich, and Wikimedia collaborations at MoMA.

I'm based in London (GMT) but previously lived in Sydney, Helsinki, and New York.

When I'm not visiting museums, I like to be in the mountains, most recently hiking the Alta Via 1 in the Dolomites.

My work

I joined the Wikimedia Foundation in February 2020 to lead the program for GLAM and Culture. The impact of this program is visible in the next five years when:

Movement organisers and volunteers understand GLAM motivations and are confident to approach suitable content partners for their projects.

GLAMs adopt open access policies and advocate for free knowledge.

GLAMs contribute large volumes of high-impact images to Wikimedia projects using accessible tools that are well documented and supported.

Content contributed by GLAMs is discoverable and used by communities to address gaps in knowledge and representation.

Resources and workflows are emerging for the integration of intangible heritage and oral knowledge in Wikimedia projects.

There is a robust exchange of knowledge and shared standards between the movement and GLAM professionals, leading to linked open data for cultural heritage.
