Biography change the code ] Before devoting herself fully to writing, and after studying literature in Bordeaux , Catherine Rey worked for several years as a teacher of French literature. In 1997, she left her work to settle in Perth , Western Australia 1 where her father was born in 1918. Her paternal grandparents had indeed emigrated to Australia in 1912. She lived in Perth for eight years, she returned to her native Charente-Maritime 2 in 2006. She currently lives in Illawarra south of Sydney. Catherine Rey holds a CAPES in modern literature. She also holds a PhD from the University of Western Australia: The New Babel: Language, Identity and Morality in the works of Emil Cioran, Milan Kundera and Andrei Makine. In her PhD Catherine Rey studies the work of three writers who abandoned their original language to adopt French. Catherine Rey is the author of short stories and several novels . Highly noticed by critics and booksellers right after the release of his first novel, L'Ami intime , published in 1994 by Éditions Le temps qui fait , it is selected the following year among the 6 authors shortlisted for the " Prix Femina 1995 of the first novel " 3 . Continuing her exploration of the dark and sordid sides of humanity, the novelist published the following two years Les jours heureux , then Eloge de l’oubli with the same publisher. The 2001 release of Lucy comme les chiens will mark a break in her collaboration with Éditions Le temps qui fait . Again, in this novel, the author plunges the reader into the throes of the painful story of a retarded girl who, despite the beatings and humiliations of an abusive mother and an abusive old man, as do the beaten dogs, remains loving and faithful to a "master" who does not deserve it. In 2003 , his novel, Ce que racontait Jones, published by Éditions Phébus , received the Thyde Monnier scholarship from the Société des gens de lettres , and was shorlisted for the prestigious Renaudot literary award 4 and Femina lirerary award 5 that same year. In 2007 , Catherine Rey publishes Une femme en marche , an autobiographical novel in which she confronts certain truths that seemed hitherto unadvisable. In September 2010 , she publishes at Joëlle Losfeld The extraordinary adventures of John Lofty Oakes , a novel that retraces, in the style of the philosophical tale and the epic , the heroic quest of a man with a tiny size, but possessing the gift of crying tears of gold. Become the object of all desires for fortune that flows from his eyes, this Tom Thumb will embark on an extraordinary journey that will take him from Guildford, Western Australia where he was born, to Panaji , a city on the west coast of India , passing through Fiji , before finally returning to its homeland. In 2011 , Catherine Rey published with Le temps qui fait , Plus calme que le sommeil, a meditation on death in the form of a long love letter 6 . Works [ edit | change the code ] novels
