Candidate Introduction
Introductory statement / Application summary (maximum 200 words): Why are you running for the Universal Code of Conduct Coordinating Committee? What would you contribute? As a Wikimedian, I have always believed that knowledge is the only thing that grows the more it is shared. And as a human being I am aware that the best actions are those that have clear, concise and plural bases and rules. U4C requires people with diverse mentalities and points of view and at the same time similar to the Wikimedia movement. I'll always find the better way to collaborate for the common interest especially by promoting free knowledge. I intend to apply my skills by collaborating with other members for the advancement of the Wikimedia Movement.

I am running for the U4C because I am committed to promoting ethical standards and integrity within movement. With my background in work within NGOs, I bring a wealth of experience in developing and implementing codes of conduct that prioritize transparency, accountability, and inclusivity. I believe that UCoC is essential to ensuring that Wikimedia movement operate with fairness and respect for all members, regardless of background or identity. If elected, I would contribute my expertise in facilitating dialogue among diverse stakeholders, and promoting a culture of mutual respect and collaboration.

Please describe your Wikimedia experience (such as contributions to the Wikimedia projects, memberships in Wikimedia organizations or affiliates, experience working on conduct issues in your community, activities as a Wikimedia movement organizer, or participation in building Wikimedia policies). Co-Founder, Board Member and former Executive Director of Wikimedia Venezuela. I've been organizing Wikimedia-like events (e.g.: workshops, edit-a-thons, contests..) for more than 10 years. I translate articles from english to spanish.

I'm an active member within the Venezuelan and Iberocoop community since 2010, I've participated in global and local events since 2014, including Iberoconf 2014 and Wikimedia Conference from 2016 to 2018. I've participated in the Iberocoop strategy discussions, Movement Strategy conversation, Wikimedia Venezuela, Iberocoop (telegram group), Wikimedia en Español (telegram group) and discussing Wikimedia’s Movement Strategy process.

Professional Experience, Skills and Education
Please briefly describe 3 situations that show how you worked on, or advised others on, a complex conduct or policy issue. How did you work with others to address the situations? 1. I facilitated dialogue sessions between groups with diversity tensions, identifying common ground and promoting collaborative solutions.

2. I advised a team on gender discrimination, designing a joint action plan that included training, policy review and complaint mechanisms.

3. I collaborated with a coalition to influence public policy, analysing legislative proposals and developing joint advocacy strategies.

In all these situations, my approach was to promote dialogue, collaboration and empowerment of stakeholders to find sustainable and just solutions to complex behavioural or policy issues. I worked as part of a team, encouraging active participation and diversity of perspectives to ensure that the proposed solutions were inclusive and respectful of the rights of all those involved.

Leadership Experience
Can you describe a policy, on wiki or off, that you helped to create or change? What did you learn from this experience? I've worked on the development of an inclusion and diversity policy within a non-profit organisation. The policy outlined practical steps that were established to ensure gender equity, cultural diversity and the active participation of people with a disability in all spheres of the organisation. I cooperated with representatives of the different groups to develop the policy, making sure that it represents the interests and realities of all organisation members. Moreover, I've identified monitoring and evaluation tools that were used to access the real change of the organisational climate.

I've learned the importance of active listening and interdisciplinary cooperation in developing inclusive and equitable policies from this experience. I've realised that diversity not only enhances organisations but is also key to their future growth and development. I learned how to handle and facilitate discussions between various stakeholders, as well as how to maintain fervour for equity and fairness while taking any action or making a decision.

How have you been able to empower people to make their voices heard? As part of a non-profit organization, I help people to leverage mechanisms and programs to get their voices heard by creating unique forums and safe welcoming spaces for experience sharing, and from magnifying the voices of minorities and underserved communities and educating them on how to protest and draw attention to their problems to leading community organizations and providing leadership development and civic participation education to them.

Empowering people with the necessary skills and knowledge to protect their rights, and those of their communal counterparts, generates a culture of aspiration that motivates everyone to speak for themselves and change for pursuing a fair and conducive environment.

Sometimes in professional situations, there are personality conflicts. Explain how you remain productive even with personality conflicts. As much as possible, I understand that sticking to our mission and objectives is essential even when individuals disagree. I ensure to genuinely listen, act empathically, and look for answers in such scenarios. I find ways to address conflict ably and still keep the work strong by finding commonalities, keeping channels open to communication and focusing on what is truly best for our cause. Additionally, I also realize that being self-aware and processing how I feel when there is disagreement is what it takes to do well on my team.
Strategic Thinking
In your opinion, how can the U4C be a positive influence in the Wikimedia movement? The U4C can be a good influence when it comes to clear rules of conduct among members. It promotes transparency, responsibility, honesty in all our actions, and the likelihood of more societal trust in us. UCoC can equally help ensure that everyone is involved, and our differences are respected, and everyone is treated with potential fairness. U4C can help Wikimedia to win more trust and support from the society. This can lead to more partnerships with other groups and organizations for even more societal impact.

In short, using U4C not only strengthens the group internally and externally, but also helps build a more ethical and responsible work culture for the betterment of the movement.

How would you help the Universal Code of Conduct develop and improve over time? I'm confident that people of different communities can present promising perspectives. I'm excited to provide my outperformance as a participant in various capacities in implementing and applying new ideas that I'm sure will be beneficial and effective for improving the Universal Code of Conduct in the long run.

I foresee U4C evolving and changing over time, and the policies should be reviewed and altered social-academic-wise to address new online challenges.
