It would be better if we could add support for quicktime virtual tours, like the kind that you can create in Panorama Factory, instead of hosting tons of individual images on the Commons. Not only can you tour things, but you also have a 360 degree view from each node. Isn't that cool?PiccoloNamek 01:10, 22 October 2005 (UTC)
- That would be nice, but I don't think it's possible. At least for now we'd have to stick with individual photos, but it's better than nothing. --Brian0918 02:10, 22 October 2005 (UTC)
I wonder if this really needs to be a separate project - IMO it could just be realized within commons, at least for the beginning. --Elian 03:04, 22 October 2005 (UTC)
Should use downloadable trails of GPS waypoints (GPX format) to document where the tour is. --LA2 08:27, 22 October 2005 (UTC)
- It should be on Commons, and be sure that the tours don't violate NPOV by emphasizing some parts of the topic more than others(especially if only one tour can be linked). Superm401 | Talk 02:06, 23 October 2005 (UTC)
- Sounds nice. For start, I think several such tours should be created on Commons, or if there are objections, you can do them in your userspace or as a WikiProject perhaps. Btw, what about relation of this project to Wikitravel? Maybe we could form some join team - it sounds quite close to what they are doing. --Piotrus 02:22, 23 October 2005 (UTC)
I think that would be a great idea, but I think for best results wiki should use quicktime VR tours. But either way the more photos to illustrate places around the world the better. Wikipedia would become the first port of call for anyone planning a vacation if we could provide numerous photos on landmarks. Some place I've got several photos of: Commons:Melbourne War Memorial, Commons:Royal Botanic Gardens, Melbourne. --Fir0002 02:30, 23 October 2005 (UTC)
- I think it's an interesting idea, but I'm not convinced of the usefulness. Those concerns aside, my suggestion for the first place to do it would be for the mall area of Washington DC - lots of landmarks in nearby areas with pictures already available on commons. Wikitour launched
editWikitour project was launched a year ago and it is hosted on www.wikitour.io. Is it possible to revive this page https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Wikitour or i should try to add an article about this project on wikipedia.org?
