I just wanted to comment that I think this is a very interesting idea. I did a little bit of work with Wikiprojects doing self-assessments soon after I started as Community Liaison. Alas, that project got set aside in the middle as more pressing projects diminished and then swallowed the time I had to give it. You can see one example at en:Wikipedia:WikiProject Military history/Strategy/Self-assessment. I did a handful of others, several of which I still have to close!
