Costs of living
editI don't understand this point. Should the chapters transfer their residence? Instead the possibility to have VISA easily, it's an important point. --Ilario (talk) 19:53, 9 November 2012 (UTC)
- And I don't understand your question. "Cost of living" means something about "how much do I pay things there?". Chapters reside in their home country, but the WCA (and probably at least some of its employees) will reside in the country we will choose.
- I agree that VISA are important. However, I don't expect any significant difference between these three countries (all of them are in Schengen area). - Laurentius (talk) 20:02, 9 November 2012 (UTC)
- It depends. The VAT in Switzerland is 6%, in Italy is 21%. So a Pc bought in Switzerland costs less than the same computer in Europe. --Ilario (talk) 20:09, 9 November 2012 (UTC)
- Clearly this is included in the estimate. - Laurentius (talk) 20:32, 9 November 2012 (UTC)
- The question of VISA is different. It means that the local office takes care to require VISA and not the association. It means that the requests of VISA have a privileged process. --Ilario (talk) 20:12, 9 November 2012 (UTC)
Process of registration and other comments
editPlease take care that we are speking about "international association". In Belgium the registration of an association is easy, but the registration of an international association may require a lot of time. The same evaluation should be done for other points about tax exemption. --Ilario (talk) 20:11, 9 November 2012 (UTC)
- Do you have any reason to believe that? In the analysis produced before Wikimania, it results that in any case short time is required. - Laurentius (talk) 20:32, 9 November 2012 (UTC)
- I've checked that. There is indeed the additional step of obtaining the legal personality, which can require some months. However, the association can start its work also before the recognition. - Laurentius (talk) 16:20, 10 November 2012 (UTC)
Verification is as yet poor
editCould editors please add footnotes at the time of entering claims? This is particularly important where numerical claims are made. And a little more precision is required: "similar to other European cities" ... so Amsterdam is similar to Warsaw and Budapest in cost of living? For that point alone, could I suggest that sources include comparisons of estimates by the World Bank, IMF, etc. There are even projections several years into the future, printed in en.WP somewhere. Particularly important are PPP vs nominal rates: that gives a general idea of the currency under/overvaluation. There's also a table of costs of doing business somewhere on the internet; I didn't find it on en.WP last time I looked, but it has been in the media over the past two years or so. The table needs this kind of depth, or it could be rather misleading on some points. Tony (talk) 14:20, 12 November 2012 (UTC)
- Well, that is the row with more footnotes! Before writing that statement, I have compared some random cities that came up in my mind, using data from the linked website (I've also looked on some other websites, but the result was more or less the same). In general, I favored clearness to preciseness, and I've tried to avoid details. - Laurentius (talk) 15:38, 14 November 2012 (UTC)
