Charitable Status
editThe government website says "If your corporation intends to become a registered charity, it is suggested that you make your application to become a registered charity prior to or at the same time as you file your application for incorporation. Otherwise, the corporation may have to make an application for Supplementary Letters Patent if CRA requires changes during the charitable registration process." I have dealt with CRA in the past to obtain charitable status for BC societies and they are fussy about the purposes of the organization and what can happen to its property on dissolution. If the society is already incorporated when the application to CRA is made, expect them to want changes. This excerpt seems to indicate (bear in mind it is from the corporations web site not the CRA web site) that the charitable application can be made during the incorporation process. Once the documents are completed for the incorporation application, before they are filed, the charities application should be made with the draft documents. Changes are much easier to make at that point than they are after the society has been incorporated. --KenWalker 08:25, 6 June 2009 (UTC)
- I remember seeing that, and we might as well follow their advice. We should also have something in the bylaws about what happens upon dissolution to preempt that complaint. Though before we do anything related to incorporation or charitable status we have to get aproval of the Wikimedia Foundation. --Arctic.gnome 14:01, 6 June 2009 (UTC)
Banking
editWe will need to figure out banking. Preferably a bank that is willing to give corporations a waver on banking fees. I know National Bank has done this for my personal corporation and have written them to see if they will give us the same deal. Doc James (talk · contribs · email) 19:09, 11 June 2010 (UTC)
- Once incorporated National Bank has implied that they will set us up a corporate bank account which has no feels attached.Doc James (talk · contribs · email) 20:52, 30 July 2010 (UTC)
