Fade to white?

edit

Why does the Wiki logo fade to white at the edge, when it is usually displayed against a pale grey background? This gives a white glow especially around the bottom edge of the logo. Why not use transparency? Does IE's limited support not allow this? Would it impose unreasonable bandwith or client-side processing overheads? Alternatively, why not truncate the fade early at a pale grey level? PhilHibbs 09:01, 2 Sep 2004 (UTC)

Transparency

edit

Can someone enlighten me as to how the transparency is done on the logo? I am using Paint Shop Pro 6.02, and it sets transparency by selecting a pallette index to be the transparent colour. However, the Wiki logo loads with a white background and also has some white pixels within the image. So, if I set white to be the transparent colour, and then show the logo against a non-grey background, I get background pixels showing through the image.

I now realise that this is because PSP is replacing the white pixels at Pallet index 6 with white pixels from Pallet index 0 (which is the transparent colour). Any ideas how I set pixels to be a particular pallet index in PSP6? I have PSP8 on my laptop, so I will try that instead later. PhilHibbs 10:18, 2 Sep 2004 (UTC)

How to protect an image?

edit

When will it be switched?

edit

I put up a request for changing the swedish Wiktionary-logo a couple of days ago. Does someone now when or how the logo will be switched? Väsk 19:51, 30 Nov 2004 (UTC)

If you want to speed the process up, consider sending a request to a mailing list (probably wikitech-l ?), it is possible, that not many developers watch this page. --Mormegil 09:01, 2 Dec 2004 (UTC)

Translation of other logos/banners

edit

We had a discussion on fr to ask if it would be possible to translate the two logos - "powered by mediawiki" and "a wikimedia project". We even have made projects fr:Image:Wikimedia-button1-sfrancois.png and fr:Image:Poweredby_mediawiki_88x31-sfrancois.png, but we think it would be better to use the templates for the actual banners. Anybody here can help and also couldn't it be done for all wikis ? p-e 13:24, 8 Feb 2005 (UTC)

Question

edit

Does the logo on a local wiki automatically change when the Wiki.png images is changed ?--Cradel 21:12, 5 June 2008 (UTC)Reply

If it had already been set by a server admin to the local Wiki.png (after the first switch), yes, every change to this image is then shown in the upper left corner, best regards, --birdy geimfyglið (:> )=| 21:17, 5 June 2008 (UTC)Reply
Err, can you tell me if the Wiki.png image on sq.wikiquote is used as the logo? because I recently changed it and the logo didn't change, thanks --Cradel 21:21, 5 June 2008 (UTC)Reply
It seems it has never been switched in the first place. Only server admins (devs with shell access) can switch the logo, You have to request that in bugzilla:. Best regards, --birdy geimfyglið (:> )=| 21:25, 5 June 2008 (UTC)Reply
Thanks :)--Cradel 21:56, 5 June 2008 (UTC)Reply
