I have long thought that we ought to have an agenda for these meetups to provide some focus and talking-points. So, as there's a breaking UK issue, I have started an agenda and put this at the top. If there are any other topical issues, please free to add them as agenda items too.

I'm pinging the people who have already signed up so they are aware of this: @The wub, WereSpielChequers, Mike Peel, Dreamy Jazz, GhostInTheMachine, Rodw, and Anonymous 7481:

  • I agree with the idea of having an agenda. In a pub meeting of our size separate discussions can spontaneously spin off - the whole process is different to online. We need a way for the rest of the meeting to change the topic or consign three or four people to a discussion room. But I'm not OK with a London based meeting poking its nose into a Scottish matter. I'm not sure it would work for us either as most of us aren't going to be fluent Scots speakers and the most cogent Scots response to this so far seems to be "Scots is a non-stannerised leid, an while it is still a livin livin leid, it’s primarily wan that is spoke not screived" as Soothrhns put it here. My own Scottish ancestors would have spoken Gaelic before they spoke English, so I'm really not qualified to opine on whether particular Scots words are within the scope of a non-standardised language or alien interlopers. As an alternative how about we do some FAC reviews and discuss that process? WereSpielChequers (talk) 11:00, 26 August 2020 (UTC)Reply
    • This is an online meeting and so the instructions above say that "geography is no longer a constraint". I am quite interested in Scottish topics myself and, as a member of Wikimedia UK, am curious about what they are going to do about this. If the topic is not to everybody's taste then we can arrange separate rooms. Andrew D. (talk) 11:53, 26 August 2020 (UTC)Reply
    • There’s now a statement from Wikimedia UK in The Guardian. Things are moving rapidly and maybe the dust will have settled by the time we meet. But it still seems like a good, novel talking point. Andrew D. (talk) 18:09, 26 August 2020 (UTC)Reply
      • I also like the idea of having an agenda, although I've changed it to "Suggested topics" which feels a bit more open for additions by anyone. As for the Scots Wikipedia issue: while I agree that Scottish Wikimedians and/or Scots speakers are probably more qualified to discuss that wiki in particular, I do think it raises some broader issues regarding small Wikipedias that are worth discussing. the wub "?!" 17:04, 6 September 2020 (UTC)Reply
