Talk:International Museum Day 2022
Translation
editWhy wasn't extension Translate used to translate this page? Now there is no way of telling if the translated pages are up to date :(. All the translations also wrongly have English as their content language, despite content being not in English. --Base (talk) 03:46, 4 May 2022 (UTC)
- Hello Base, the different pages don't necessarily have the same content and structure, e.g. only the German version explains the role of ICOM Germany, the Dutch version has a special display of press contacts etc. --Raimund Liebert (WMAT) (talk) 08:19, 4 May 2022 (UTC)
- It is possible to accommodate that with translate. For example one can just insert templates with optional information where needed. But for better maintenance it is better to keep the general structure and the main part of the content the same, IMHO. Base (talk) 08:57, 4 May 2022 (UTC)

- Some more translation issues: "English Museums" (in both the title and the URL) should be changed to "British Museums" because it covers Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland and British Overseas Territories. On the map pages, "… and in other 5 languages" (or whichever number it has) should be "… and in 5 other languages". Ham II (sgwrs / talk) 07:29, 4 May 2022 (UTC)
- Thank you for fixing these. Ham II (sgwrs / talk) 13:17, 7 May 2022 (UTC)
- The German map translations are also wrong:
- … und in 20 weiteren 1 Sprache
… und in 20 weiteren 8 Sprachen
- … und in 20 weiteren 1 Sprache
- The number "20" does not make sense and should be deleted. For the singular form, the grammar is wrong; for the plural form, the word order is more flexible in German which allows you to choose from two options. Correct text might look like this:
- … und in 1 weiteren Sprache
… und in weiteren 8 Sprachen
… und in 8 weiteren Sprachen
- … und in 1 weiteren Sprache

- Thank you Martinus KE, really helpful. I have send the information to the developers to fix it. --Ilario (talk) 20:22, 5 May 2022 (UTC)
missing map of museums in the Netherlands
editThe map of the museums in the Netherlands is missing! If i click on the map: Museums of Kingdom of the Netherlands the map of the Netherlands with the museums is not showing. Is anything wrong here? Kind regards Saschaporsche (talk) 13:24, 5 May 2022 (UTC)
- Hi, for Netherlands we had museums under two different entities: Q55 and Q29999. Both have maps. Probably someone noted the discrepancy and aggregated everything under Q55. In this case I am leaving the last entity from the list and you can refer onyl to this map. --Ilario (talk) 15:20, 5 May 2022 (UTC)
- Hi Ilario, thanks for fixing the problem! Saschaporsche (talk) 19:34, 5 May 2022 (UTC)
Dutch museum Huis Doorn; incorrect data item
editLooking at the Dutch map museum Huis Doorn is linked to the wrong data item: Museum Huis Doorn (Q110281534). Should be: Huis Doorn (Q559460). Since the castle is in fact a museum, shouldn't these items be merged? who can do that? Mill 1 (talk) 07:28, 10 May 2022 (UTC)
- I found multiple similar issues where the museum and matching building have different items. I would not merge them. The museum is "located in" the building. But they are different concepts, with different properties. E.g. the house does not have a Twitter account, but the museum does (yes, sometimes they both have). Did anyone start creating shape expressions already to capture this, perhaps? Egon Willighagen (talk) 15:37, 10 May 2022 (UTC)
Black/African Heritage Museum
editI have listed Black/African heritage museums here.
This list includes museums in Africa, the United States, the Caribbean, Britain and Europe.
Preserving our cultural heritage is particularly important for those of us from the African Diaspora, as our heritage was stolen from us. Recording and preserving our artefacts is an important part of the process of reclaiming our identity, our ancestral heritage and our sense of self.
This list is extensive, but by no means exhaustive.
translation to Croatian from ICOM original
editI organized for an ICOM press release to be translated in Croatian and to include few specific local info (thanks to User:Ilario for map) http://www.msu.hr/dogadanja/18-5-medjunarodni-dan-muzeja/962.html ...not sure if I should add it somewhere? --Zblace (talk) 05:14, 21 May 2022 (UTC)
