editHi, my name is Orbitale. I contribute for several years on french Wikipedia (with the same nickname) but I am also able to contribute with an intermediate level of english. I will be pleased to answer you in english if you speak only that. In short, I have always appreciated native american culture and I have already spent nearly a year in northern Quebec.
--Orbitale 03:14, 11 February 2012 (UTC)

editHi! Glad the language is included, but I'm pretty sure it's just an Alaskan language, not Canadian. -- Zanimum (talk) 20:00, 7 April 2012 (UTC)
- I agree. Our article at w:Languages of Canada suggests that if there are any Canadian speakers, there are fewer than 200. Arctic.gnome (talk) 20:44, 7 April 2012 (UTC)
- I included it in the list here just because Wikimedia Canada said it's the Chapter representing that language, see Chapters per Wikimedia language. Amqui (talk) 22:59, 7 April 2012 (UTC)
- That list doesn't have any official character, it was just created as a source of info: "This is just informative and may contain errors." --MF-W 23:06, 7 April 2012 (UTC)
- And the inclusion of a link to the Inupiat Wikipedia and its recent changes here doesn't bear any official character either. If it can help being monitored by this group, I don't see the problem to include it personally. Amqui (talk) 23:29, 7 April 2012 (UTC)

Time to add the indigenous languages of the US?
editHowdy, Arctic.gnome and Antaya! How about we make this a single, unified project? Amqui has been very helpful with Tsétsêhéstâhese, Siksika and Anishinaabemowin are on both sides of the border ... Wouldn't it be useful to have a single, English-language page to access these wikis? Djembayz (talk) 02:09, 2 May 2012 (UTC)
- At first, I was thinking of creating a North American page instead of a Canadian, but there wasn't any development outside Canadian language Wikipedias. We can easily extend the "geographical" scope of this page if this will help the Native Wikipedias in any way. By the way, sorry for being not so active the last month, I'm very busy outside Wikipedia (job, school and moving); I'll try to catch up now. Amqui (talk) 22:58, 28 May 2012 (UTC)
Endangered Languages Project
editGoogle had launched a new website, the Endangered Languages Project. I have contacted them to see the possibility of a partnership between them and the Wikipedias in Native American languages. The partnership could be as simple as including a link to existing Wikipedias from the languages' entry on the Endangered Langauges Project. Please share any thoughts or ideas you have regarding that, thanks. Amqui (talk) 01:26, 5 July 2012 (UTC)
- Good day, I have finally made contact with a representative of this Project and I will be discussing with him this Friday. I'd like to hear suggestions from you about what I should discuss, ask or propose. Thanks, Amqui (talk) 22:20, 7 August 2012 (UTC)
There is the page for that coordination : Cooperation between Wikimedia and Endangered Languages Project. Amqui (talk) 01:17, 16 August 2012 (UTC)
Strategy plan
editI have started a draft for the strategy plan for projects to develop Canadian indigenous languages Wikipedias. It can be found there on the Wikimedia Canada website. Feel free to bring your ideas and suggestions on the talk page or here if you're not a Wikimedia Canada member. Amqui (talk) 02:34, 26 August 2012 (UTC)
- Hi Amqui! Is there anything new with the strategy plan? What are the next steps in all of this? Thanks to make things happen. --Orbitale (talk) 17:54, 30 March 2013 (UTC)

Attawapiskat First Nation suicide crisis
editAmqui suggested that I bring this issue here for discussion. Amqui, your comment that "we have a project in a school on a reserve where the students write articles." is exactly what I think we should make happen, if possible, at Attawapiskat First Nation. You can see on my talk page the failed efforts I have made to contact a teacher at the high school there, what is the next step in order to get a Wikipedia writing project going there? What else can we do together for them in terms of outreach? Nocturnalnow (talk) 13:35, 29 April 2016 (UTC)
- If there is no interest from local teacher or other local organization, it is hard to do anything else. From experience, projects are doomed to fail if they are not supported by local Native people, we cannot push it on them, we are here to support them in organizing their own projects. Amqui (talk) 13:40, 29 April 2016 (UTC)
- I understand. However, I think that I will try a bit harder to at least get an answer from them, even if it is to say they are not interested. Perhaps you could educate me on how the writing project on the reserve you refer to was initiated? Nocturnalnow (talk) 13:56, 29 April 2016 (UTC)
- It was initiated by the cooperation of a local teacher and a graduate student in linguistics. Amqui (talk) 16:33, 29 April 2016 (UTC)
- There is a public list of all the teachers at the Attawapiskat secondary school so I am wondering how best to contact 1 or 2 of them to see if they are interested in duplicating what was done on the other reserve by the local teacher and a graduate studen? I am considering snail mail inquiry, what do you think? Nocturnalnow (talk) 21:22, 29 April 2016 (UTC)
- Computer class teacher is your best bet, or the Native language class, in my opinion. Amqui (talk) 23:02, 29 April 2016 (UTC)
- ok, thanks very much...I will keep you posted. Nocturnalnow (talk) 20:32, 30 April 2016 (UTC)

Amqui, what is the name of the school on a reserve where the students write articles ? I received an email response from Mandy Alves suggesting I contact another teacher at Attawaspikat, Monica Rathee-Shah. I may mention the existing project in my pitch. Nocturnalnow (talk) 23:36, 2 May 2016 (UTC)
- See the discussion on my talk page on French Wikipedia, thanks, Amqui (talk) 17:09, 3 May 2016 (UTC)
- I could not find your talk page on French Wikipedia; please provide a link if possible. Thanks very much. Nocturnalnow (talk) 19:59, 4 May 2016 (UTC)
- I found it. Thanks again. Nocturnalnow (talk) 03:29, 5 May 2016 (UTC)
- 9 more suicide attempts. I'll email Monica tomorrow and maybe she and Mandy will motivate each other to get started. Nocturnalnow (talk) 20:25, 5 May 2016 (UTC)
- No luck yet; Monica referred me to a school administrator whom I emailed 2 days ago. Nocturnalnow (talk) 03:40, 16 May 2016 (UTC)

Great news :) I added to my efforts by going to facebook to contact people in Attawapiskat. I have so far gained 2 facebook "friends" who live there as well as joined a facebook group that is specific towards their suicide crisis. My real name is Derek Hill and you can see what's happening there at Attawapiskat Suicide Awareness Nocturnalnow (talk) 14:49, 19 May 2016 (UTC)
