Scope of societal activity of affiliates edit

I propose we discuss about the scope of societal activity of affiliates. We as chapter chairpersons have signed funding agreement with WMF where the chapter detains from "lobbying or political campaign activities" and "grantee will not use the Grant to engage in any attempt to influence legislation." and others. However we cannot deny that our activity is in part political (the word is understood differently in different countries) or at least societal. Have you discussed about the social and societal role of your organisation in your country and what has been the result? What is the scope and limits of this kind of activity?--Kulttuurinavigaattori (talk) 09:17, 21 June 2018 (UTC)Reply

That provision comes from US law (basically, there are restrictions on how much US charities can spend in lobbying). Lobbying here has a very specific meaning (distinct from e.g. advocacy), and it applies only to WMF funds. See also Grants:APG/Funds_Dissemination_Committee/Handbook#Funds_for_lobbying for more explainations. - Laurentius (talk) 12:20, 31 July 2018 (UTC)Reply
