eyes needed

Err... there's some sh*t being flung around @ Proposals for closing projects/Closure of Samogitian Wikipedia since yesterday, with pointy counter-nominations and whatnot. Maybe some more eyes could take a look... Seb az86556 13:25, 2 June 2010 (UTC)

Appropriate usernames - a global approach?

Hunting around for information on the global approach on usernames, and also the appropriateness of users per account. I can find local policies on some wikis, but nothing global. Your direction to the global approach would be appreciated. Also, I am wondering how we can have a local approach to usernames when we now have global unified accounts. As it would seem that if a name is appropriate on one wiki, then it needs to be appropriate on all, or conversely if it is not acceptable on one wiki, then it isn't acceptable on any. Your direction around this matter would be appreciated. billinghurst sDrewth 04:35, 24 May 2010 (UTC)

Most believe username policies and guidelines are mostly silly - see the attempt to instate one on Commons last year. I think common sense is sufficient; there is not a problem here.  — mikelifeguard@meta:~$  15:53, 24 May 2010 (UTC)
Good-o, so we don't have an issue with an account that resembles an organisation, e.g. Mfi.media for Messiah Foundation International. billinghurst sDrewth 03:56, 25 May 2010 (UTC)
Not on a global scale. Individual wikis often have policies based on their language, culture, and expectations. For example, the handling of a name like Shabi will be very different in English than it will be in Mandarin Chinese (literally "stupid cunt"). It is currently up to individual wikis to determine what kinds of names are undesirable. You're free to propose a global policy, if you think that would be beneficial. —Pathoschild 13:46:18, 25 May 2010 (UTC)
Actually we have some problems. it.wiki's policy before SUL [almost] used to prohibit non-Latin usernames, although this has been then fixed. I don't know on other wikis. --Nemo 06:51, 8 June 2010 (UTC)

Global account

Could any steward that's available delete my global account "MC10" so that I can attach my local accounts again, as I don't have a home wiki (see CentralAuth)? For some more information, see here. Thanks. MC10 (TCLEM) 23:56, 7 June 2010 (UTC)

Apparently J.delanoy has already done that, so this is   Done. MC10 (TCEM) 02:09, 8 June 2010 (UTC)

Why does it matter which wiki is your home wiki? Seems like a complete waste of time. --MZMcBride 03:07, 8 June 2010 (UTC)
