Requests for new languages/Wiktionary Polabian

A committee member provided the following comment: As stated below, WMF projects are not places to recreate languages. You need to move this project off of Incubator to Incubator Plus on Wikia or to some other location consistent with the licensing terms of WMF projects. - The community needs to develop an active test project; it must remain active until approval (automated statistics, recent changes). It is generally considered active if the analysis lists at least three active, not-grayed-out editors listed in the sections for the previous few months.

Polabian- a new Language for Wiktionary edit
I hereby apply for the creation of a full-fledged Polabian Wiktionary. Polabian is an extinct language that was spoken in eastern Germany until the 18th century. The Incubator-Test Wiktionary
- Why? A modern language Wiktionary, like de.wiktionary or en.wiktionary, would more usefully hold definitions of Polabian words in a modern language.--Prosfilaes (talk) 23:35, 26 November 2017 (UTC)
- Wikipedia says "About 2800 Polabian words" are known. That's far from enough to write a dictionary in.--Prosfilaes (talk) 23:37, 26 November 2017 (UTC)
- Truthfully, Phillipm0703, Prosfilaes is correct. Remember that a "Polabian Wiktionary" is a Wiktionary whose base language is Polabian, allowing words in any language to be defined. You are far better off putting effort into adding Polabian words into widely used Wiktionaries, notably en.wiktionary (biggest), as well as de.wiktionary and pl.wiktionary, Wiktionaries in the languages that people in that region are most likely to speak fluently. - Of course, but you could just borrow borrowed words from Polish, Kashubian, etc., or put together new words. Or you invent new words. My goal is not to create a historical Wiktionary for scientists, but to invent a "New Polabian" and revive the language in its "basic form", such as "New-Prussian", Hebrew, Cornish. - That's all very nice, Phillip, but WMF does not typically see its projects as being a place to reinvent languages.
- In any event, since I am still clearing out a backlog of requests for new projects, it will be a while before I get to this one. And even if it is marked as "eligible"—and I'm not sure it will—it can't become an independent Wiktionary until there is actually some content to do something with, as well as a community that is building the content. Per above, I oppose any Wikimedia projects in Polabian. The vocabulary of any language, living or dead, can be added to existing Wikitionaries like wikt:de: or wikt:en:. Now, as a long time contributor to w:li: and several of its sisters, I sympathise with lesser languages getting their own Wikipedias. Unlike the Board, I even think there can be Wikipedias in dead languages. But to deserve a Wikipedia, the language must live on to some extent, either as the ancestral language of an ethnic group that still exists (e.g. Livonian), or as a classical language (like Ancient Greek), or maybe both (like Coptic). Unless I am very mistaken, there are no ethnic Polabians today - the descendants of its speakers identify as Germans. Admittedly, I would be trilled to see a Wikipedia (to be sure, Phillipm02 has in fact started a test Wikipedia as well, though he hasn't requested its creation yet) in yet another language, but this thrill can't be the only reason for its creation.
