Requests for new languages/Wiktionary Pali

main page Request for a new language edition: Wiktionary Pali
submitted verification final decision
Process-stop.svg This proposal has been rejected.
This decision was taken by the language committee in accordance with the Language proposal policy based on the discussion on this page.

A committee member provided the following comment:

No longer a language in use, except for liturgical purposes. As with many historical languages' projects, this project can remain at Incubator. For LangCom: StevenJ81 (talk) 16:17, 13 November 2018 (UTC)
  • The community needs to develop an active test project; it must remain active until approval (automated statistics, recent changes). It is generally considered active if the analysis lists at least three active, not-grayed-out editors listed in the sections for the previous few months.
  • The community needs to complete required MediaWiki interface translations in that language (about localization, translatewiki, check completion).
  • The community needs to discuss and complete the settings table below:
What Value Example / Explanation
Language code pi (SILGlottolog) A valid ISO 639-1 or 639-3 language code, like "fr", "de", "nso", ...
Language name Pali Language name in English
Language name पालि Language name in your language. This will appear in the language list on Special:Preferences, in the interwiki sidebar on other wikis, ...
Language Wikidata item Q36727 - item has currently the following values:
  • en label = Pali
  • native label (P1705) = पालि, Pāḷi
  • instance/subclass (P31/P279) = language, ancient language / Prakrit
  • Wikimedia language code (P424) = pi
  • writing system (P282) = Brahmi, Latin script
  • number of speakers (P1098) = 0

Item about the language at Wikidata. It would normally include the Wikimedia language code, name of the language, etc. Please complete at Wikidata if needed.
Directionality no indication Is the language written from left to right (LTR) or from right to left (RTL)?
Links Links to previous requests, or references to external websites or documents.
Project name "Wiktionary" in your language
Project namespace usually the same as the project name
Project talk namespace "Wiktionary talk" (the discussion namespace of the project namespace)
Enable uploads no Default is "no". Preferably, files should be uploaded to Commons.
If you want, you can enable local file uploading, either by any user ("yes") or by administrators only ("admin").
Notes: (1) This setting can be changed afterwards. The setting can only be "yes" or "admin" at approval if the test creates an Exemption Doctrine Policy (EDP) first. (2) Files on Commons can be used on all Wikis. (3) Uploading fair-use images is not allowed on Commons (more info). (4) Localisation to your language may be insufficient on Commons.
Optional settings
Project logo File:... This needs to be an SVG image (instructions for logo creation).
Default project timezone Continent/City "Continent/City", e.g. "Europe/Brussels" or "America/Mexico City" (see list of valid timezones)
Additional namespaces For example, a Wikisource would need "Page", "Page talk", "Index", "Index talk", "Author", "Author talk".
Additional settings Anything else that should be set
submit phabricator task (includes everything automatically, except additional namespaces/settings)

Pali is the one of rich Indic languages. I know the pali language well. If you Wikimedia starts the Pali Wikitionary project, i can make these very useful and rich wikitionary. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Hardhrol (talk) 12:01, 11 October 2018

@Hardhrol: Currently the langcom think that your request to re-open this Wiktionary should be rejected (but your test-wiki can be kept indef) because it's "now a liturgical language only". If you disagree it, feel free to provide what you're concerned here. --Liuxinyu970226 (talk) 04:30, 8 November 2018 (UTC)

Request Pali Wiktionary for 2021Edit

I am fluent in Mon Pali language, can I request something for the Pali Wiktionary? I would like to request that the Pali Wiktionary be reopened in 2021.--咽頭べさ (talk) 09:36, 21 September 2021 (UTC)

@咽頭べさ: This request had been rejected. If you would like to reopen the request, please open a new one at Requests for new languages/Wiktionary Pali 2. Thanks. NinjaStrikers «» 04:28, 28 September 2021 (UTC)
