submitted verification final decision

This language has been verified as eligible.
The language is eligible for a project, which means that the subdomain can be created once there is an active community and a localized interface, as described in the language proposal policy. You can discuss the creation of this language project on this page.

Once the criteria are met, the language committee can proceed with the approval and will verify the test project content with a reliable neutral source, such as a professor or expert.

If you think the criteria are met, but the project is still waiting for approval, feel free to notify the committee and ask them to consider its approval.

A committee member provided the following comment:

Waiting for native speakers. If you are a native speaker of Wymysorys, please say it on this page or send email to info@wikimedia.org. --Millosh 11:27, 5 March 2010 (UTC) Native speakers (at least one) have meanwhile shown up on Incubator and here. Eligible therefore. Now awaiting your test wiki contributions & MediaWiki translations :) --MF-W 21:10, 22 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]
  • The community needs to develop an active test project; it must remain active until approval (automated statistics, recent changes). It is generally considered active if the analysis lists at least three active, not-grayed-out editors listed in the sections for the previous few months.
  • The community needs to complete required MediaWiki interface translations in that language (about localization, translatewiki, check completion).
  • The community needs to discuss and complete the settings table below:

Settings
Project name "Wikipedia" in your language
Project namespace usually the same as the project name
Project talk namespace "Wikipedia talk" (the discussion namespace of the project namespace)
Enable uploads no Default is "no". Preferably, files should be uploaded to Commons.
If you want, you can enable local file uploading, either by any user ("yes") or by administrators only ("admin").
Notes: (1) This setting can be changed afterwards. The setting can only be "yes" or "admin" at approval if the test creates an Exemption Doctrine Policy (EDP) first. (2) Files on Commons can be used on all Wikis. (3) Uploading fair-use images is not allowed on Commons (more info). (4) Localisation to your language may be insufficient on Commons.
Optional settings

Default project timezone Continent/City "Continent/City", e.g. "Europe/Brussels" or "America/Mexico City" (see list of valid timezones)
Additional namespaces For example, a Wikisource would need "Page", "Page talk", "Index", "Index talk", "Author", "Author talk".
Additional settings Anything else that should be set
Once settings are finalized, a committee member will submit a Phabricator task requesting creation of the wiki. (This will include everything automatically, except the additional namespaces/settings.) After the task is created, it should be linked to in a comment under "final decision" above.

The original proposer, User:Spl908455, is a person interested in the culture of Wilamowice, is also helpful on the Silesian Wikipedia. He didn't write anything in the request, so I think I should do that. Wymysorys (Wilamowicean, Vilamovian) is a dying language of Germanic origin, spoken in the town of Wilamowice, in the region of Silesian, in Poland. Although the number of native speakers is estimated on 70 by Tymoteusz Król (a person who is the main coordinator of reviving the language), there is a vast number of people interested in learning this language or reviving it. It is a living language widely spoken among the elderly. However between 2004 and 2006 there was a project of learning the language among the primary school pupils. The Wikipedia would be a great way of showing the language to the world and preventing it from death. There is also numerous published sources in Wymysorys - poetry, texts about Wilamowice culture etc. Timpul 11:34, 20 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

ATTENTION: The main coordinator of saving the Vilamovian language, Tymoteusz Król, has joined the project. At the moment he's editing as an IP, but I will teach him how to deal with Wikipedia. So the community is in the process of forming :) Timpul 13:49, 21 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I'm Tymoteusz Król, the youngest Vilamovicean native-speaker. I think that Wikipedia in this language is a good way to preserve it, and to show in other young Wilamowicean people that this language could be used in the Internet and in modern life. It is a good way to for linguists to be interested in it too. I'm able to write articles for this Wikipedia and I think that the other Wilamowicean would join it. --Wymysojer 18:24, 15 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Arguments in favour

edit
  • Support After reconsidering it is a very good chance to revive the dying language, there is an internet community of people who speak Vilamovian, I am also willing to help. A lot of people are interested in learning this language, there writing of Wymysorys-handbook is in progress (will be probably published this year). The language is popular among the Polish people interested in linguistics, it is easy to learn for the Germanic languages speakers. I think we should give it a chance, do not take it into consideration until the idea isn't popular. Thanks. Timpul 11:23, 20 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support A chance should be offered. Let's say that when it's December I'm going to lose all my hopes on this one... --OosWesThoesBes 04:54, 16 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Does this mean you are pro? Timpul 19:24, 20 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Mainly. I put it at arguments against because there were no proposers/interested people at that time. Now I'm fully supportive. --OosWesThoesBes 07:49, 21 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support Each living language should have a chance, and I see the test project in Incubator is active. Lajsikonik 13:40, 21 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
  • Living language, internet community. BartekChom 11:13, 22 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support Living language, at least should be given a chance even though the number of users might be a little low --eyoung 13:57, 22 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support Since it is actively used in minority schools and a few articles appear occasionally in newspapers and magazines. 115.113.97.139 09:19, 4 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
  • Supportliving language, enough speakers--Biŋhai 12:03, 17 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support every language that exists and still has a chance to start living full life, or even a language that has died but has a community that wants to rescucitate it. 89.167.47.60 14:49, 16 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support Just because there are 70 speakers doesn't mean there are not more. There could be more that speak the language as a second, like Latin.--Kanzler31 21:26, 11 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support Respect is very important for languages with a shrinking number of speakers. If English was not respected, if there were no media in English, anyway it would take centuries till English would suffer extinction. But if there are only seventy speakers left, the language should get as much supportion as possible - at least a Wikipedia. We need cultural diversity, not only because of the aesthetic aspect, but also because it saves naïve people from an immense enlargement of what they define as their home: in short cultural diversity saves the world from nationalism. (As an outsider I cannot deny a certain sympathy for minorities)
  • Support, we must save this language. --U.Steele 19:37, 29 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support, living language and community. 178.190.14.255 18:03, 10 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]
  • Strong Support, agree with U.Steele. --Heavy Metal PST5 15:14, 5 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support --Erdemaslancan 21:26, 12 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
  • Strong Support this language is still alive, there are a young user that do much for this language, we have to give a chance to this language, we need a language diversity in our world, besides there are languages which was revived such manx, hebrew etc. so it is possible, in case of wymysioeryś there are easier cause there are people which talk in this language. --Ethefor 22:53, 27 December 2011
  • Strong Support - let's keep the language alive. --Botev 20:38, 9 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
  • support: I hope Kanzler31 is right; with lot of hard work we can make this language live and make it know to the world.--Nickanc (talk) 20:17, 19 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]
  • Strong Support as a native speaker (in fact). I'm amazed by strange commentaries in section below, so... we should/must do our best to prevent the extinction of this unusual language.--Łöst (talk) 22:06, 26 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support what makes this language special? The same thing that makes English special: NOTHING! However we don't create new versions regarding the arbitrary quality of specialness, we consider living languages with willing contributors. Hebrew was once forgotten, many native american languages are vulnerable or critically endangered, having a body of writting as expansive as wikipedia will allow communities to preserve their languages and unique world view, there is no need to devalue minority languages there simply seems to not be very many people of this particular race of people no need to exclude them on that basis alone.108.212.70.237 02:38, 28 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]
  • support: This Polish language is extraordinary, have got 100 speakers!!. --Marrovi (talk) 19:19, 27 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support: This endangered language, a mix between German and Polish, is extraordinary and should be preserved, forever and ever. Luxtaythe2nd (talk) 11:16, 11 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Vilamovian v. Wilamowicean

edit

In reference to this article use of "Vilamovian" would it not be more appropriate to use "Wilamowicean"? (Ethnologue: Languages of the World - Wymysorys). Nightsturm (talk) 15:39, 16 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]
