Requests for new languages/Wikipedia Tver Karelian

main page Request for a new language edition: Wikipedia Tver Karelian
submitted verification final decision
Discuss the creation of this language project on this page. Votes will be ignored when judging the proposal. Please provide arguments or reasons and be prepared to defend them (see the Language proposal policy).

The language committee needs to verify the language is eligible to be approved.

  • Check that the project does not already exist (see list).
  • Obtain an ISO 639 code
  • Ensure the requested language is sufficiently unique that it could not exist on a more general wiki.
  • Ensure that there are a sufficient number of native editors of that language to merit an edition in that language.
  • The community needs to develop an active test project; it must remain active until approval (automated statistics, recent changes). It is generally considered active if the analysis lists at least three active, not-grayed-out editors listed in the sections for the previous few months.
  • The community needs to complete required MediaWiki interface translations in that language (about localization, translatewiki, check completion).
  • The community needs to discuss and complete the settings table below:

ProposalEdit

All the Karelian dialects are very different from each other, tough the Tver dialect belongs to the group of Karelian proper. The Tver is very different from the Viena dialect (Which is the main dialect what the Karelian Wikipedia is in), i can speak some Tver Karelian and can contribute to the wiki. Tver Karelian has about 3600 native speakers and a few hundred non native speakers.": --Lammõz (talk) 18:27, 11 September 2020 (UTC)

DiscussionEdit

  • We have a Karelian Wikipedia. If you think that Tver Karelian is distinct enough to be its own language, then get a ISO 639-3 code from SIL, or at least try and get a rejection.--Prosfilaes (talk) 06:45, 14 September 2020 (UTC)
@Prosfilaes: What we currently have is Livvi-Karelian, not Standard Karelian, but as Requests for new languages/Wikipedia Karelian 2 exists and verified as eligible, I thought that if we can merge this page to that page or not. --Liuxinyu970226 (talk) 22:16, 20 September 2020 (UTC)
  •   Support it's a good idea. --Erokhin (talk) 04:18, 25 June 2021 (UTC)
@Erokhin Good idea for a duplicated project? lol Liuxinyu970226 (talk) 22:56, 2 September 2021 (UTC)
  • So, Incubator has got:

Proper Karelian, which supposedly contains Tver Karelian as a dialect (recognized in Russia, not in Finland) https://incubator.wikimedia.org/wiki/Special:PrefixIndex/Wp/krl/

Livvik Karelian: https://incubator.wikimedia.org/wiki/Special:PrefixIndex/Wp/liv/

Ludik Karelian: https://incubator.wikimedia.org/wiki/Special:PrefixIndex/Wp/lud/

One more dialect/language would be fine. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Tengwartas (talk) 2021-10-31 21:09

@Tengwartas: Livvi-Karelian isn't what incubator:Wp/liv is for, a Wikipedia in that language already exists: olo.wikipedia.org. incubator:Wp/liv is for Livonian, both are different things. One more dialect/language would be fine yes, providing that they have different language codes.--Liuxinyu970226 (talk) 00:23, 1 November 2021 (UTC)
