Requests for new languages/Wikipedia Torres Strait Creole

Torres Strait WikipediaEdit

main page Request for a new language edition: Wikipedia Torres Strait Creole
submitted verification final decision
This language has been verified as eligible.
The language is eligible for a project, which means that the subdomain can be created once there is an active community and a localized interface, as described in the language proposal policy. You can discuss the creation of this language project on this page.

Once the criteria are met, the language committee can proceed with the approval and will verify the test project content with a reliable neutral source, such as a professor or expert.

If you think the criteria are met, but the project is still waiting for approval, feel free to notify the committee and ask them to consider its approval.

  • The community needs to develop an active test project; it must remain active until approval (automated statistics, recent changes). It is generally considered active if the analysis lists at least three active, not-grayed-out editors listed in the sections for the previous few months.
  • The community needs to complete required MediaWiki interface translations in that language (about localization, translatewiki, check completion).
  • The community needs to discuss and complete the settings table below:

ProposalEdit

Many Torres Strait Islanders have access to the Internet, so they have much information to fill the new Wikipedia with it.

DiscussionEdit

Arguments in favourEdit

  • There are more than 25 000 speakers of this language. It is quiet big compared to other languages, isn't it? I think they've got much to write in Torres Strait Wikipedia. --ᨔᨛᨘᨉᨑ ᨓᨛᨍᨐᨖ 20:46, 5 March 2010 (UTC)
  • Support! --Blue Sigal 21:08, 5 March 2010 (UTC)
  • I agree with ᨔᨛᨘᨉᨑ ᨓᨛᨍᨐᨖ. Support! --Ţħėőďŏŗǽ 19:18, 11 May 2010 (UTC)
  • Maybe --U.Steele 19:42, 29 July 2011 (UTC)
  • Support! More than 25,000 speakers of this language and Wikipedia has/has had languages with less than this (e.g Norfuk has about 1,000 speakers and it has a Wikipedia). I will contribute to this and many more Pacific Islander Wikipedias (already started work on the Pitjantjatjara, Eastern Arrernte, Australian Kriol and Niuean ones). I did change the native name from "blaikman" to the more well-known native name "Yumplatok". Australian111 (talk) 03:20, 10 July 2021 (UTC)

Arguments againstEdit

Other discussionEdit

It has a total of 6 pages in Wikimedia incubator. If this language has to have its own separate project, then activity in the incubator is necessary. --Sotiale (talk) 03:22, 10 July 2021 (UTC)
