- Speakers: 587,547 (2002 Russian census).
- Location(s) spoken: Russia: Republic of Kabardino-Balkaria and Republic of Karachay-Cherkessia. It is a language with official status there.
Arguments in favour
edit- Support. It's a living language with many speakers and it has official status. амдф 13:21, 8 March 2010 (UTC)
- Support: Native speakers of Kabardian-Circassian have the competency and willingness to contribute to this project in the long-term. Hence the Kabardian language deserves to be given the opportunity and priviledge to have its own language edition of Wikipedia along with the existing Northwest Caucasian languages such as Abkhazian, Adyghe and so on. --Jose77 04:57, 26 April 2010 (UTC)
- Support: Enough contributors, good quality articles at Incubator. Hugo.arg 14:38, 19 May 2010 (UTC)
- Support: per above--Andrijko Z. 13:33, 29 August 2010 (UTC)
- Support as written above. Very good stuff for further evolution. Also good quality of templates (person etc.) but please read the General discussion and Localisation information below. Fagusius 18:09, 29 August 2010 (UTC)
- Support, language has more than 500 thousand peoples and this section of the incubator is actively developing, including, and my strength. Master Shadow 06:55, 7 September 2010 (UTC)
- Support This language has many speakers in Russia. It is the biggest language in Russia which does not have Wikipedia.Kaiyr 00:54, 16 September 2010 (UTC)
- Support. Kabardian-Circassian is one of the two languages of Northern Caucasus, available to choose as an inteface language in a major social network vKontakte (another being Ossetic). For me that means that the language community is ready for larger Internet projects. As said above, a large language with its literature and education traditions. Amikeco 05:49, 17 September 2010 (UTC)
- Support. The project has good prospect of development. Wikipedia will help language to affirm as an Internet network. HalanTul 06:37, 17 September 2010 (UTC)
- Support. --Kaganer 08:11, 17 September 2010 (UTC)
- Support. Рашат Якупов 16:57, 17 September 2010 (UTC)
- Support. The people of Kabarda and Circassia need their own Wikipedia in their own language. Taamu 17:25, 20 October 2010 (UTC)
- Support. --Wisconsus 19:44, 5 February 2011 (UTC)
Arguments against
editGeneral discussion
editLittle bit confused as this version should be in Latin or Cyrilic (there are some other options for this language in translatewiki.net: kbd-cyrl къэбэрдеибзэ, kbd-latn, kbd) As I can see on Incubator, there is cyrilic only. Has it been solved yet? Are you willing to do this in Latin as well? If so, some hints you can find here in serbian language version:Latinica ћирилица. Switching between two versions in real time. It would be essential to solve this question now before you start doing serious things with own Wiki domain. Please try consider that before you will carry on. Will be the first language in latin or in cyrilic? Fagusius 18:09, 29 August 2010 (UTC)
- Kabardian language is currently only uses the Cyrillic alphabet, I do not understand why need a Latin version. Master Shadow 06:50, 7 September 2010 (UTC)
- I see, thank you. There was just an option in list of languages (Latin and Cyrilic for specific version). Only to be sure which is right for usage. Fagusius 14:37, 11 September 2010 (UTC)
There have been enough active contributors recently [1]. Maybe it's time we prepared to open this project? --Wisconsus 19:47, 5 February 2011 (UTC)
Localisation information
editNow I see there is a strong translation effort in progress. For better orientation what is already done and what needs to be within kbd-cyrl, the following links.
At time of this writing there is already translated: 80.56% of Most often used messages and 18.96% of MediaWiki messages in kbd-cyrl language code. When you will be done, please request an update from Language comitee in Language committee/Status/wp/kbd page. Fagusius 15:11, 11 September 2010 (UTC)
All the messages have been translated--Andrijko Z. 19:37, 13 November 2010 (UTC)
