    • Translation: Excuse my English! Gagauz languae language has too few speakers to create a wiki-language-project. If it will be created, it will wither and die after 2-3 months! The project has been approved by the Language committee. We are waiting now for up to seven days for Board's decision, which should be a formality. In the meantime, please fill the next questionnaire, so we can give necessary data for opening the project:

These people may or may not be fluent, but I call shenanigans on their claims to be native speakers. The vast majority of Gagauz speakers are bilingual in Russian, but these people mostly have babel templates indicating tr-4 and nothing else other than Gagauz. I was happy to see this proposal until I noticed this inconvenient fact. Let's make sure that actual Gagauz native speakers are creating the content here, please, and not have a repeat of some existing Wikipedias written all by amateur second language learners. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Node ue (talk • contribs) .

I agree with Node ue, it looks like there is too little real speakers of the language. Only Virüs, Cuman (who state they are not native speakers) and Todur (who states he is a native speaker) seem to have writen more than a paragraph in Gagauz. Concerning the others, they seem to have written only one sentence, and all the other information in the article written by them is presented by infobox, lists and tables plus images without meaningful captions. The most typical example is incubator:Wp/gag/Ukrayna (Ukraine has the world's second largest Gagauz population), which has only one line of text. Thus, this wiki may have a real problem with native speakers, as too many users seem to be able to write only a phrase in Gagauz — NickK 19:26, 18 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I'm surprised, because the project is in the incubator for three years already, and I wonder why nobody brought any argument contr and opened this topic again after the approval. The fact that some native Gagauz speaking users also speak Turkish, it is not means they are from Turkey. This argument seems absurd. For example, user Kaykauz is the moderator at a Gagauz net forum with 5500 members. AT LEAST 200,000 PEOPLE SPEAK GAGAUZ so what you see here is only a beginning. Since I started this project in 2007, was only a few users, and also there were some opinions that the project will not survive just some months. But today - after three years have proved that wrong. Gagauz Wikipedia - is a big impulse to national rebirth Gagauz language, for the first time Gagauz native speakers get a native-language online resource. Maybe you do not feel it, but even a simple incubator project made it. Personally I noticed this issue only after Node ue's comment. It's not an argument against, it's just a potential problem of the projec. Plus there were problems with Turkish language speakers who created meaningless pages in the Incubator in some close languages, I hope this is not the case. I don't cast doubt on the language or the project itself, I appreciate your efforts to create encyclopaedia in Gagauz. I hope that it's simply a problem of growth and not a project policy, so I hope with the popularisation of the project you will have much less template-built articles but not encourage creating templated articles. Anyway, I do not have anything against this project and wish you good luck with it, hope you expand your contributors base and avoid poential problems of small wikis. Cuman, please don't mistake my comment. I have nothing against the beautiful Gagauz language, however new Wikipedias must have at least 3 native speakers contributing before they are allowed to be created, and that does not seem to be the case here. I will be happy if Gagauz Wikipedia grows, but please find native speakers, from Moldova and Ukraine for example, rather than people from Turkey whose native language is Turkish. Again, what is your explanation for the fact that few of your editors speak Russian when 99% of Gagauz people are bilingual in that language? --Node ue 23:54, 29 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

You know, the fact that many listed Turkish as a language that they speak does not mean they come from Turkey. It is just that the language is very close to Turkish (some even consider it a dialect) and people in Gagauzia are very keen of Turkey. Turkey invested a lot in schools and businesses in Gagauzia, and they also promoted their culture. So far I know, the governament of Moldova never contested that Gagauzians are of Turkish origins, and encouraged cultural connections of this region with Turkey. --Danutz 01:25, 15 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]
