Proposals for closing projects/Closure of Telegu Wikiquote

The result of the following proposal for closing a WMF project is to KEEP the project. Please, do not modify this page.

The following discussion is closed: The project is to be kept per lack of consensus and due to an increase in local activity at the project in discussion. —§ stay (sic)! 07:01, 31 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

The only activity on the Telegu wikiquote is the index.php spambot. Ahoerstemeier 16:28, 6 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I suggest KEEP, since this discussion is inactive, many oppose and there is good activity now. SPQRobin (inc!) 19:54, 23 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I concur. This discussion is largely dormant and the majority oppose closure. There also seems to be a sufficient amount of activity in the project to keep it going. Since this is the oldest proposal to date, and it is unlikely that the discussion may receive any significant attention, I close this discussion with the result to keep. —§ stay (sic)! 07:01, 31 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Support closure

edit
  1. Support Pro is that the language has excellent localisation. I am in favour of closing this project because there appears no recent activity, aside from meta maintenanec (by stewards). Wiki contains a few dozen pages that may as well be integrated ointo their respective pages on the Telugu Wikipedia, adding more volume and concentrated information to those pages. Keeping this wiki alive will probably mean that it will have to be resuscitated periodically. Siebrand 16:56, 18 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
  2. Support No recent activity except by stewards. Not many articles. Per above. SwirlBoy39 01:55, 17 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
  3. Support --Ilaria 06:58, 18 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
  4. Support There may be a lot of people who speak the language, but I'm not getting the impression that they are interested in editing their Wikiquote. It can be reopened if/when interest in having it grows; simply keeping it around because that might happen is a waste of time. And if it is the literacy rate you're claiming is the problem, well.. I can't see something like that in any society being solved in a matter of months or years. Most education programs and whatnot take decades for the effects to be felt. Oppose closure

edit
  1. Still very few activity, but there seems to be legitimate content. --::Slomox:: >< 17:52, 29 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
  2. Oppose. Maybe it needs some time to grow. --Johnson40213 10:58, 30 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
  3. Oppose. Millions of native speakers. Need time to grow (currently limited by litteracy rate, and past lack of builtin support of Telugu in many common OSes, but the localisation of OSes becomes more effective now, and there are now free Telugu fonts. Time will come soon where contributors in Indian schools and universities will see some interest in feeding a source of knowledge in their own language, rather than just in English or Hindi; of course this is a challenge for the existing supporters to recruit voluntaries. Let's give it some time to thme to create the funcamental structure, and then there will be more people interested to join to the efforts). This is not a minority language, but a language listed among the top languages spoken in the world, with a very active culture. It would be useful if a local Indian branch of a Wikipedia association in India started a project to bring at least the dozen of official languages of India into Wikipedia, starting by the core articles needed for education in primary schools. That's the mission of the Foundation to help education and promote litteracy throughout the world. verdy_p 23:39, 12 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
  4. Oppose per Slomox. American Eagle (talk) 06:12, 5 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
  5. The project has the potential to grow, and now that a user has pledged to become active, the project should be given a chance. If there is no growth in a few months, the project should be closed, but right now it should at least be given the opportunity to grow. Malinaccier (talk) 02:23, 15 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
  6. Oppose. Give it time. Unless it is being used as a back-door hack for vandals to get SUL, there should be no problem. -- Avi 03:45, 15 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
  7. Oppose per en:WP:CHANCE (well, not exactly, but it's the same idea). –Juliancolton (talk) 21:14, 17 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
  8. Oppose. Time, friends, give it time. --Jeffmcneill 23:10, 15 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Oppose closure per Kajasudhakarababu for now. Suggest revisiting in 6 weeks. --A. B. (talk) 21:52, 8 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  • request to wait: Hi, I am Kajasudhakarababu, member in English Wikipedia, and active member in Telugu Wikipedia. I looked at Telugu Wiki quote only after this discussion started. I just joined in and will start contributing soon to Telugu Wiki quote. Can you please wait for some time (say, one month) to monitor the activity, before deciding to close the project? Thanks - Kajasudhakarababu
In the meantime, can you take on the task of watching that project for spam? Thanks,--A. B. (talk) 21:52, 8 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Kajasudhakarababu, you could request admin access to help clean up spam there if you are going to be active there. Majorly (talk) 22:03, 8 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
