How can google support us?
- Sarmad: we need to raise awareness & outreach of Arabic Wikipedia. Launch a promotional campaign through media (Ala’a agrees).
- Ala’a: we need 2 things: ease access to Wikipedia, and create more articles. We can use paid ads to increase outreach.
- Sarmad: allocate resources for creating promotional YouTube videos.
- dezedien: first agree on the timeline, then ask Google to provide finance for each stage.
- Ala’a: Google should use only the stable article version in their “knowledge graph”. (noted).
- Helmi: 1. Google should notify Wikipedians in advance before featuring a Wikipedia article on their doodle. 2. We need more cooperation with transliteration. 3. Provide prizes in Google Play credits (has multiple uses). 4. Provide prizes in subscription for Google One storage.
- Sarmad: can Google help feature the video link in a banner?
- Ala’a: the YouTube will be either paid or voluntarily made.
- dezedien: we can make 3-4 videos: how to edit, how to participate, etc. Distribute prizes during WikiArabia.
- Abbad: the prizes may include a funded trip to WikiArabia.
- Husam: what does Google need in return? Can Google developers contribute to the project? (noted). Using WikiData to analyze linguistic data/develop tools for Arabic Wikipedia.
- Helmi: we can create more article lists.
- dezedien: create a web page for the project.
- Sarmad: an average site costs about 1,000$
- dezedien: will ask for someone to design the site (task).
- Helmi: we should create our own list
- Sarmad: when can Google provide us with the list?
- Anass: do we need admins to review the lists? No
- Sarmad: we only need to check if articles meet notability
- Helmi: make the competition like Producer’s prize, spanning over 6 months (provide about 70-80% of resources for it). Support photography competitions with the remaining resources.
- Abbad: next steps are as follows:
