- Having worked with Thea on a conference last year and taken a close look both at her team's work and its impact on Wikimedia affairs, I think this would be wisely spend money not just in relation to the event at hand but also down the roads through likely positive secondary effects caused by her taking part in it. I therefore endorse this request, best --Jan eissfeldt (talk) 23:05, 26 February 2013 (UTC)
- I think that this proposal comes at a perfect time as the Wikipedia community considers how Wikidata will make it easier for GLAMs (and scientists!) to contribute and reuse sourced facts, as well as possibly creating more enthusiasm for US-based editathons to commemorate the 99th anniversary of the First World War. I've spoken to Thea about linked data at our university, and I think that she'd make a fantastic speaker on this vitally important subject. -- Gaurav (talk) 21:44, 27 February 2013 (UTC)
Budget breakdown
edit- Travel: USD 400 for round-trip economy class ticket from Denver to San Francisco
- Accommodation: USD 75 per night x 2 nights = USD 150
- Meals and ground transportation: USD 35 per day x 2.5 days = USD 87.50
Proposed Participation
editI have been invited to give a lightning talk at the U.S. OpenGLAM Launch event on the World War I Linked Data project. WW1 LOD encourages the findability, interoperability and sharing of data related to the First World War. DBpedia, which makes Wikipedia content available as linked data, is among the major data sources to which the project is linking. These links will allow the querying of relationships and properties associated with Wikipedia resources and enrichment and reuse of WWI-related data in preparation for the upcoming centenary of the war. I will attend the OpenGLAM Launch to promote the project as well as to identify potential collaborators at other institutions the enrichment and reuse of WWI-related data in preparation for the upcoming centenary of the war. Additionally I will be on hand to support my collaborator Hlong-lib to garner feedback and adoption of Primary Source Corps, a gamification project to encourage contributions of primary source material from digital library collections to Wikisource (see her proposal for further details).
Goal and Expected Impact
editMy goal is to raise awareness of the WW1 LOD project and make connections with other GLAMs interested in furthering open knowledge. Wikipedia data will play a central role in this effort. I hope based on our projects other institutions will consider linking to and reusing this rich data source in their own efforts, thus making all of our data more open and usable to the general public.
