North American Wikimedians/Hub founding/What we expect afterward
Main | Talk | Agreement draft text | Background materials | What we expect afterward |
What should we expect from, and after, making an agreement to form an North American hub (NAhub)?
- We expect WMNY, DC, Canada, Mexico, the Caribbean, several state-size user groups, and a few thematic groups to join. A list of about 15 regional affiliates in North America is here. (It's not quite current. Let's update that.) Let's start the hub when we have 8-10 signing on.
What should we expect to happen after an agreement?
- More wiki-related events and/or more awareness of events
- A concise monthly newsletter will list announcements and news items from across the continent, e.g. North American Wikimedians/News
- Could show events on a calendar too
- Wikifests quarterly? North American Wikimedians/Wikifests
- The hub will support the NA conference and report on activities to WMF and the public through the conference user group
- WikiDC plans to get WMF funding to offer small/rapid/easy grants for events across the continent
- We'll find ways to combine training/event/professional materials
- We'd like to offer a GLAM camp again (training for early-or-mid-career GLAM pros)
- Support across affiliates for governance purposes, e.g. advice on how to run things, mutual financial audits
- Combined policy advocacy
- Wikimedia DC can sponsor and run a GLAM camp on behalf of the Hub in 2025, and hopes to coordinate to create a hackathon.
