National Parks Challenge

xxx, 2017 - xxx, 2017

Welcome!

  • What is this?: It´s an editing challenge focused on protected areas. These are part of our heritage due to their recognized natural, ecological or cultural values, so help us to improve information about them. The challenge is organized by Wikimedia South Africa and Wikimedia España.

So it consists in creating, translating or improving articles about South African and Spanish national parks.

  • When?: The writing challenge will run from 00:01 (CET UTC+01:00) xxx, 2017 until 23:59 (CET UTC+01:00) xxx, 2017. So, only the work done between these dates will be included in the contest.

  • How?: The contest is based on a KISS point system: You get points while writing or translating articles to any language. The goal for each participant is to win as many points as possible. The scoring rules are as follows:

  • +1 point for each +1,000 bytes of added content in any language.
  • +2 point for each new Wikidata item created.
  • +3 points for each new article in any language (included translations).

  • Who?: Everybody can participate on translating and writing articles. Any Wikipedian with a named account (on any wiki) can participate. To participate you just need to sign up on the Participants section.

If you are a new editor of Wikipedia, first of all, Welcome! We suggest that you take a look at Wikipedia:Translation and the Introduction. That will make it easier to get going! When you start writing, the Manual of Style might be of help. All these pages are available in many languages. Also, nowadays it is much easier to contribute to Wikipedia than ever before and you don't really have to learn any code! Please have a look at Wikipedia:VisualEditor for more information.

  • Important!: Only articles that have at least 3 references will be valued.
