এনডিইসি উইকিপিডিয়া সম্পাদকীয় ও গবেষণা দল নটর ডেম ইংলিশ ক্লাব এর একটি বিশেষায়িত দল; যা নটর ডেম কলেজ, ঢাকা ভিত্তিক এবং এই প্রতিষ্ঠানের শিক্ষার্থীদের দ্বারা পরিচালিত একটি সহশিক্ষা কার্যক্রমের অংশ। এই সহশিক্ষা কার্যক্রমটি মূলত উচ্চমাধ্যমিক স্তরের শিক্ষা প্রতিষ্ঠানে ইংরেজি ভাষা ও নেতৃত্বের দক্ষতা বিকাশে নিবেদিত। মুক্ত জ্ঞানের পরিমণ্ডলে অবদান রাখার প্রয়াস থেকেই প্রতিষ্ঠানটিতে এই দল গঠন করা হয়েছে।

বাংলাদেশের শিক্ষা প্রতিষ্ঠানে একটি সুগঠিত ও সুসংগঠিত উন্মুক্ত জ্ঞান আন্দোলনের পথিকৃৎ হিসেবে প্রথম সহশিক্ষা সংগঠন হিসেবে, নটর ডেম ইংলিশ ক্লাব এই বিশেষ দলটি গঠন করে। উন্মুক্ত জ্ঞান আন্দোলনের সমর্থকগণ বিশ্বাস করেন যে জ্ঞান সবার জন্য এবং যে কোনও জায়গায় জ্ঞান উপলব্ধ হওয়া, মূল্যায়ন, সৃষ্টি বা প্রসারের ক্ষেত্রে কোনো বৈষম্য থাকা উচিত নয় এবং কোনো সামাজিক, অর্থনৈতিক, ভাষাগত বা প্রযুক্তিগত বাধা কাউকে জ্ঞান সংগ্রহ ও প্রচারে বাধা দেবে না। এই দলটি তার সদস্যদের প্রত্যেকের জন্য বিনামূল্যে জ্ঞান নিশ্চিত করার প্রক্রিয়ায় অংশ নিতে উৎসাহিত করার জন্য কাজ করবে এবং বিশেষ করে এটি নটর ডেম কলেজ, ঢাকার ইতিহাস এবং সংশ্লিষ্ট বিষয়গুলির উপর অধ্যয়ন ও গবেষণা প্রকল্প পরিচালনা করতে কাজ করবে এবং যথাযথ "উন্মুক্ত জ্ঞানের পরিধিভুক্তকরণ" নিশ্চিত করবে।
উদ্দেশ্যসমূহ
- "নটর ডেম কলেজ, ঢাকা" এবং সম্পর্কিত নিবন্ধগুলির বিশ্বকোষীয় অন্তর্ভুক্তিকরণ।
- বাংলাদেশের শিক্ষার্থীদের মধ্যে উন্মুক্ত জ্ঞান সম্পর্কে সচেতনতা সৃষ্টি করা।
- বাংলাদেশের শিক্ষা ব্যবস্থার অংশীদারদের মধ্যে উন্মুক্ত শিক্ষা উপকরণের ব্যবহার প্রবর্তন করা।
- উইকিমিডিয়া প্রকল্পে অবদান রাখার মাধ্যমে এবং বিশ্ব সম্প্রদায়ের সঙ্গে মতবিনিময়ের মাধ্যমে এনডিইসি-র ইংরেজি ভাষা শিক্ষণ পদ্ধতি বিকাশ এবং এর জন্য উন্মুক্ত জ্ঞানের উৎসসমূহ এবং উইকিপিডিয়ার মতো উন্মুক্ত মাধ্যমের ব্যবহার।
কার্যপ্রণালী
এই দলের কার্যক্রমকে মূলত তিনটি পর্যায়ে ভাগ করা যেতে পারে।
- জ্ঞানের সংগ্রহ: প্রথম পর্যায়ে আমরা অনলাইন এবং অফলাইন উৎস থেকে আমাদের উদ্দিষ্ট বিষয়ের জ্ঞান শনাক্ত ও সংগ্রহ করি। মানুষকে নির্দিষ্ট জ্ঞান প্রদান করার জন্য অনুপ্রাণিত করা, পাঠাগার বিশেষত নটর ডেম কলেজের গ্রন্থাগার ব্যবহার, আলোকচিত্র ও ভিডিওচিত্র সংগ্রহ প্রভৃতি আমাদের কার্যপন্থার অন্তর্ভুক্ত থাকতে পারে।
- জ্ঞান সঞ্চয়: প্রথম পর্যায়ের পর আমাদের নিশ্চিত করতে হবে যে, সংগৃহীত জ্ঞান যেন নিখুঁতভাবে নিরাপদ স্থানে সংরক্ষিত থাকে এবং যখনই প্রয়োজন হয় তখনই তা পাওয়া যায়। তবে আমরা সবকিছুকে জনসমক্ষে রাখতে পারি না কারণ বেশিরভাগ সময়ই আমাদের সংগ্রহে কপিরাইটযুক্ত বই, ফটোগ্রাফ, যোগাযোগের বিবরণ, ব্যক্তিগতভাবে শনাক্তকরণযোগ্য তথ্য ইত্যাদি অন্তর্ভুক্ত থাকে।
- জ্ঞানের প্রসার: তৃতীয় এবং শেষ পর্যায়টি হলো আমরা আগে যে জ্ঞান সংগ্রহ করেছি এবং সঞ্চয় করেছি তার প্রচার-প্রসার ঘটানো। প্রচারের জন্য আমাদের প্রধান বিষয় হল উইকিপিডিয়ার মতো উন্মুক্ত জ্ঞানের মাধ্যম ব্যবহার। আমরা বিশ্বাস করি যে জ্ঞান প্রত্যেকের জন্য। আমরা ম্যাগাজিনের ওয়েবসাইট ও সামাজিক মাধ্যমও ব্যবহার করতে পারি যখন সংশ্লিষ্টজনেরা তা শেয়ার করার জন্য প্রস্তুত থাকে। আমরা নটর ডেম কলেজের শিক্ষার্থীদের এই জ্ঞান অনুশীলন এবং ভাগাভাগি করে নেওয়ার মাধ্যমে তাদের আরও এক ধাপ এগিয়ে নিয়ে যাওয়ার জন্য প্রশিক্ষণ ও উৎসাহ দেই। তৃতীয় পর্যায়ে আমাদের কৌশলগুলির মধ্যে অন্তর্ভুক্ত থাকতে পারে সংশ্লিষ্ট কর্তৃপক্ষকে গুরুত্বপূর্ণ মিডিয়া এবং অন্যান্য ফাইলগুলি উইকিপিডিয়ায় রেফারেন্স হিসাবে সংগৃহীত বই এবং অন্যান্য উপকরণ ব্যবহার করে উইকিপিডিয়া নিবন্ধগুলিকে সমৃদ্ধ করে আমরা যে তথ্য সংগ্রহ করেছি তা দিয়ে নিবন্ধগুলি যতটা সম্ভব ভাষায় অনুবাদ করা, আগ্রহী যে কারও সাথে জ্ঞান ভাগাভাগি করা।
আমাদের মূলধারার কর্মপদ্ধতির এই তিনটি পর্যায় ছাড়াও আমাদের নিয়মিত নিয়োগ ও প্রশিক্ষণ প্রক্রিয়া পরিচালনা করতে হবে যার মধ্যে কর্মশালা, এডিটাথন ইত্যাদি অন্তর্ভুক্ত থাকতে পারে।
প্রকল্পসমূহ
নটর ডেম কর্মশালা এবং এডিটাথন ২০২০
২০২০ সালের ১২ই নভেম্বর নটর ডেম ইংলিশ ক্লাব উইকিপিডিয়া এবং এর সহযোগী প্রকল্পগুলিতে অবদান রাখতে এর সদস্যদের প্রশিক্ষণের জন্য উইকিমিডিয়া বাংলাদেশ এর সহযোগিতায় একটি অনলাইন কর্মশালার আয়োজন করে। কর্মশালায় অংশগ্রহণকারীদের কার্যক্ষেত্রে তাদের জ্ঞান প্রয়োগের সুযোগ দেওয়ার জন্য এক সপ্তাহব্যাপী একটি এডিটাথন-এরও ব্যবস্থা করা হয়। ৭০ জনেরও বেশি শিক্ষার্থী অনলাইন কর্মশালায় অংশ নেয় এবং ২৩ জন শিক্ষার্থী এডিটাথনে অংশ নিয়েছিল। এডিটাথনে অংশগ্রহণকারীরা এনডিইসি থেকে সনদপত্র পেয়েছেন। এই কর্মশালা এবং এডিটাথন এনডিইসি-কে উন্মুক্ত জ্ঞানের পারিপার্শ্বিকতার একটি বিস্তৃত দৃষ্টিভঙ্গি পেতে সহায়তা করেছে। এডিটাথনের সময় অংশগ্রহণকারীরা ইংরেজি উইকিপিডিয়া থেকে বাংলা উইকিপিডিয়ায় ১০৬ টি নিবন্ধ অনুবাদ করেন এবং ৮০টি নিবন্ধ জুরি বোর্ড কর্তৃক গৃহীত হয়। ক্লাবের ওয়েবসাইট এবং wmbd ডকুমেন্টেশন সাইটে আরও বিস্তারিত জানতে পারেন।
এই প্রকল্পটি আসলে দলের কার্যপরিধিতে নিয়োগ প্রক্রিয়ার একটি অংশ।
প্রোজেক্ট ইন সার্চ অব দ্য রুটস
"প্রজেক্ট ইন সার্চ অব দ্য রুটস" এনডিইসি উইকিপিডিয়া সম্পাদকীয় এবং গবেষণা দলের একটি উচ্চাভিলাষী প্রকল্প যা প্রাথমিকভাবে ঐতিহাসিক ফটোগ্রাফ, অফলাইন রেফারেন্স, "নটর ডেম কলেজ, ঢাকা"-এর ইতিহাস সম্পর্কিত জ্ঞানী ব্যক্তিদের সাক্ষাৎকারের মতো অফলাইন রিসোর্স সংগ্রহের উপর দৃষ্টি নিবদ্ধ করে। এটি এই দলের প্রথম আনুষ্ঠানিক প্রকল্প যা এর সদস্যদের জন্য কাজের উপর প্রশিক্ষণ হিসেবে কাজ করেছিল। এ দলের সদস্যরা কেবল তথ্য-উপাত্ত সংগ্রহই করেননি, উইকিপিডিয়ার পারিপার্শ্বিকতা কীভাবে চলে এবং স্বেচ্ছাসেবক সম্প্রদায় কীভাবে বিভিন্ন প্রকল্পের গুণমান নিশ্চিত করে সে সম্পর্কেও গভীর ধারণা পেয়েছিলেন।
এই প্রকল্পটি আসলে দলের কার্যপরিধির প্রথম ধাপ (জ্ঞানের সংগ্রহ) এর একটি অংশ।
অনুবাদ প্রকল্প
The Translation Project by NDEC Wikipedia Editorial & Research Team is another ambitious and experimental project where the members of this team will translate the articles related to Notre Dame College, Dhaka and try to spread the information about these topics to as many language versions of Wikipedia as possible. We've noticed that there are some Knowledge Divides between different language versions of Wikipedia. Small Wikipedia communities lack necessary volunteers as well as good coverage of internationally important topics. At the same time, small wikis may have good coverage on the local culture of the geographical area that particular language covers but the same knowledge about those cultures are absent in almost all other wikis. To bridge this gap, this team of enthusiastic college students thinks the interaction between different Wikipedia language communities and inter-culture efforts can be crucial.
With very limited resources and experience, this team is trying to see their ideas in action. At their very initial steps, the team is trying to translate the article of Notre Dame College, Dhaka from Bangla to English. This team has intentions to enlist these articles as a Good article or Featured article in English Wikipedia. Almost all the members of this team are complete newbies. So, they needed to learn the syntax first. This project is being led by one of the leading members of "Project Featured ArticleːNDC" (in Bangla Wikipedia) where despite having possible Conflict of interest issues, a group of the students of "Notre Dame College, Dhaka" led their college article to the Featured Articles list of Bangla Wikipedia after a long process of peer review and community engagement. Most of the members of that group was also completely unaware of the ecosystem of Wikipedia communities.
This project is mainly a part of the third phase (Dissemination of Knowledge) of the team's work procedure.
About Notre Dame English Club
Notre Dame English Club (NDEC shortly) is the 19th extra-curricular organization of Notre Dame College, Dhaka which focuses on the improvement of the language and leadership skills of the students of this educational institution. This organization is completely led by the students of Notre Dame College under the supervision of the teachers and the college authority. It is operated as a non-profit and is responsible to the college authority for its actions.
This club is thought to be the first extra-curricular organization to work on English skills in the educational institutions of Bangladesh. It is also thought to be the organizer of the biggest English-language-based carnival in the country.

With this motto, this organization is fighting knowledge gap in the education sector in Bangladesh by increasing the English proficiency level of the students of Notre Dame College, Dhaka and the students from all over Bangladesh.
According to Washington Post, among 7.2 billion people on the earth, English has only 527 million native speakers (7.32 percent) whereas Bangla has 250 million native speakers (3.47 percent). There are almost 7100 living languages in the world, says the same article. In contrast, 63.6% of the contents on the internet is in English whereas less than 0.01% is in Bangla according to W3Techs Usage statistics of content languages for websites and Usage statistics of Bengali for websites. Most of these aren't openly available to be consumed by all. This leads to a huge knowledge gap. Bangla is just an example here. You can easily replace Bangla with any of the 7100 languages.
To bridge this gap, we can think of two possible ways, bringing the internet in Bangla for the native Bangla speakers or enabling our native Bangla speakers to create and consume English content online and ask them to help translate the internet into Bangla for native Bangla speakers. Both of them are needed badly. And of course, we also need to "open the knowledge" for all. We're preparing our future generation to interact with the internet (and in real life) in English so that they don't miss the opportunity to leverage the "sum of all human knowledge" and make this knowledge available for the people of all languages, races, regions and educational backgrounds.
