Movement Charter Ambassadors Program – 2024
The full draft of the Wikimedia Movement Charter will undergo a community engagement period from April 2nd to April 22nd. The full draft Charter will be shared on April.
In addition to reading the Movement Charter draft, take a look at the Movement Charter Drafting Committee’s monthly updates on Diff or Meta.
MC Ambassador's quick guide to host a community conversation
Before the conversation
- Prepare
- Take sometime to familiarize yourself with the full draft of the Movement Charter.
- Ensure that the Charter is translated into the respective languages of your region. Once the Charter text has been translated please share it with your communities so that folks are aware of the draft and have enough time to get acquainted with it.
- Coordinate
- Gather your team, and ensure everyone knows their responsibilities. We recommend a main facilitator, a note-taker, and a moderator. In some context, the facilitator can also be the moderator, so feel free to adjust it as it fits you. Generally, the facilitator is the main host/presenter of the session. They manage the general flow of the conversation. The moderator supports the facilitator to collect questions and check the chat (if online). The note-taker(s) can be 1 or more people, whose job is to ensure that every comment and feedback is captured during the conversation.
- Reserve a date to have a prep meeting with the facilitation team at least one day before the meeting, in case you need to adjust something.
- Organize
- The period for community engagement spans from April 2nd to April 22nd, 2024. The Ambassadors are strongly encouraged to hold their conversations with the communities between April 2nd and April 16th.
- After you know the date and the venue of your conversation(s), please share the invitation for conversation with your community and add your event to this page section. Please create your conversation page on Meta-wiki page.
- Send out the invitation for the conversation at least 1 week ahead of the date; send a reminder 2 to 3 days before the session; and a final reminder some hours before the session starts.
- Document the feedback. E.g., you can use Etherpad for collaborative notes: https://etherpad.wikimedia.org/
- Please share photos on Wikimedia Commons.
- Let us know if you need help with this by reaching out to the MCDC Support team at movementcharter@wikimedia.org
- During the conversation
- Be at the conference venue in advance to ensure everything you need is ready. If it is online, ensure you test every setting.
- Agenda: You can use this agenda as an example for a 90-minute session. This is an example, feel free to adapt:
- [5 min] Welcome
- Recall Friendly Space Policy (Universal Code of Conduct)
- [10 min] Introduction to the Movement Charter and the current drafts – MCDC representative
- [50 min] Discussion of texts in breakout groups
- [15 min] Sharing back from breakout groups
- [5 min] Final round for comments
- [5 min] Next steps and wrap up
- [5 min] Welcome
- After the conversation – Feedback reporting format
- MC Ambassadors will be required to share their feedback report no later than April 21st. We suggest that the Ambassadors prioritize the feedback reporting and consider the set dates when planning their community conversations.
- Where do you share feedback?
- To ensure that the feedback is structured effectively, you are required to use this template here. Please note that the page will be updated closer to the start of the community engagement period.
- Share your reflections on Diff based on the feedback received from your community members. Consider notes, recordings, and other materials while drafting the blog. If you plan to organize two or more conversations, you can submit a summary of the conversations in one final blog post. The main aim of the blog post is to share what your community members think about the proposed Charter drafts.
- In addition, please share a summary of your findings on the Movement Charter Talk page so more people are informed. This can be derived from your Diff blog post.
