Policy change?

When did we start voting for sysops on Meta? I thought the policy was that any sysop could also be a meta sysop on request. Has that policy changed or can I make these people sysops straight away? Angela 01:32, 27 Mar 2004 (UTC)

Erm, I didn't know that :) This place is a mess. Dori | Talk 01:36, 27 Mar 2004 (UTC)

To bureaucrats/stewards: When making sysops, please make them here, not on test. It's hard to follow which requests have been met when you don't know which log to look at. Thanks. Angela 21:34, 12 Apr 2004 (UTC)

Hum, Administrator states that you must have 100 contributions to meta, whereas this page doesn't give any info. Maybe some update is needed?

I only started updating the admin page *this* morning. Have not cleaned up everything according to new policy yet. ant

I am not, and don't plan to be, a sysop on any Wikimedia wiki (besides http://wp.wikidev.net, which is not official), so I am not eligible to be a meta sysop under current rules. I would like to apply though, once I pass the 100 contributions mark. Perhaps a policy change is in order? -- Jeronim 12:21, 25 Jul 2004 (UTC)

Couldn't you just get dev access directly on any wiki without going through the sysop procedure? It doesn't seem like a violation to me. Dori | Talk 16:33, 25 Jul 2004 (UTC)
I had the same reaction when I saw the rules. My current interest is developing sites with MediaWiki and hacking the code. I also think meta is in serious need of cleaning up. Whilst I don't need admin status here at the moment, it would be nice to to think I could request it or be nominated without being a sysop elsewhere. This is the de facto home of MediaWiki, after all. [Well actually, that raises another point: why is most of the material about MW on meta, and not on mediawiki.org? If meta were truly only about the wikimedia project, not mediawiki, the sysop rule would be rather more understandable] --Kingboyk 01:07, 19 December 2005 (UTC)

I just noticed the confirmation thing on the other page. Does anyone have any problems with the 3 per week approach, or any other part of it? --Ben Brockert < 07:31, 3 Jan 2005 (UTC)

Anthere didn't like the three per week approach, so I lengthened the poll to two weeks. --Ben Brockert < 02:43, 6 Jan 2005 (UTC)
