About

The Graphics Lab is a place where users from various Indic Wikimedia languages can seek for help related to graphics. They may include but are not limited to vector files (SVGs), maps, and images . All these graphical content is hosted on Wikimedia Commons, for use on other Wikipedia projects .

The work may include but are not limited to creation and editing of drawings, diagrams and maps. In respect of Photographic Images; it may include but are not limited to improving the quality and clarity of images,extracting key elements from photos, removing distracting elements and improving the general appearance of images are also within the scope of the requests.

Feel free to request image improvements. Active contributors are also really needed to lead the project too. We need all this to start!

Scope

The scope of this lab is in line with the scope of the overall portal. Requests from users actively working on various wikimedia projects in the following languages in resepct of the graphical content used in any of the following languages can be placed here. The languages include, but are not limited to – English (content related to India), Assamese, Bihari, Bengali, Doteli, Goan Konkani, Gujarati, Hindi, Kannada, Maithili, Malayalam, Marathi, Nepali, Odia, Punjabi, Sanskrit, Santali, Tamil, Telugu, Tulu, and Urdu. You may add more languages after a discussion on the talk page.

Though requests for new drawings and illustrations are accepted, requests for new photographs are not within the scope of this lab. We may create a page for "Requested Photographs" or "Requested Photographs" could be sub-section of resource exchange program in future.. Please see the next section reflecting the examples of requests that are expected to be processed here.

Types of work done

Whitening or cleaning the background
Removal of objects and colour improvement
Image restoration
Translating SVGs (diagrams) into native languages
Vectorizing PNG or JPG illustrations (why SVGs?)

The kind of requests may be similar to the ones mentioned, but need not necessarily be the same exactly. Apart from those you may also request the creation of logos for your events and projects, edits or work related to maps etc. If you have any questions about placing a request, please discuss on the talk page. Also after you place a request, you may ping one of the users below (with respect to their skills) for attention.

Bitmap image processing

Basic: Basic picture adjustments like cropping and rotating
Intermediate: Average skill, like a typical social network user retouching photos
Advanced: Highly competent editing with specialized graphics tools
Expert: Professional-level mastery of tools like GIMP and Photoshop, able to do just about anything with bitmap graphics

Vector graphics editing

Basic: Able to translate SVG files, and have a basic understanding of vectors.
Intermediate: Able to vectorise illustrations and drawings from JPG or PNG, and create logos with less complexity. Able to create this file
Advanced: Able rectify errors in SVGs, create complex graphics. Able to create this file
Expert: Can literally do anything related to vector graphics. Able to create this file
