Spanish translations

I noticed some of the changes have already been made in the Spanish version, but there are still some loose ends. Caveat: I am a student of the language and not a native speaker, so my vocabulary might be overly formal, bookish, or just plain wrong.

  • "HomePage" is probably understood by Spanish-speakers, but "Página inicial" might still be better. Is there any reason this (and "Cambios recientes" can't be free links?)
  • "¡Tú puedes editar esta página ahora mismo!" is missing some accents, and the inverted exclamation; none of those are critical.
  • Is "free, community project" intended to mean free as in beer or as in speech? The current text indicates the former. The latter would be better as "un proyecto abierto a la comunidad."
  • Still have English "Last edited (DATE) (diff)". I suggest "Cambiado por última vez (DATE) (diferencia). Of course since "diff" is the name of a specific program, you might want leave that alone.
  • "Edit text of this page" : "Editar el texto de esta página"
  • "View other revisions": "Ver otras revisiones"
  • (On edit page) "Editing (TITLE)": "Editando (TITLE)"
  • "Summary": "Resumen"
  • "This change is a minor edit": "Este cambio es una corrección pequeña."
  • "Please notice that all contributions to Wikipedia are considered to be released under the GNU Free Documentation License. The date format presently uses English month names. Numbers would be an easy fix, but if you can use Spanish month names you might want to do that as well. If I find more I'll let you know. --LDC

Several of the missing points you mention were included in the translations I sent to Jason. I was giving him some more time,

and, in any case, i think the problem with the links has more immediate importance. I asked him to leave "HomePage" unchanged, as I have seen it in some spanish pages...I would like to have some more contributors before deciding the final thing,

German translations

Although somebody else might have done it, I tried to give these text fragments in German:

  • "Recent Changes" : "Letzte Änderungen"
  • "Preferences" : "Einstellungen" oder "Optionen" the last being mor common in software products
  • "Editing Preferences": "Edit Optionen" In some cases "to edit" is better translated as "zu ändern", but "editieren" is accepted I think
  • "You can edit this page right now! It's a free, community project"

  • Recent Changes : Modifications récentes should be the right translation, but Dernières modifications (which means Last modifications) may sound a little better.
  • Preferences : Préférences
  • This change is a minor edit : Modification mineure
  • Summary : Sommaire
No. Sommaire is rather a detailed table of contents. Summary is a "résumé".
  • Visit Preferences to set your user name : Créer ou modifier votre profil
  • View other revisions : Consulter les autres modifications
maybe not the best choice. Revisions imply a notion of history that modifications does not. So, it could be "Consulter (ou voir) les modifications précédentes" or "Consulter l'historique".

italian "legalese" for GNU and copyright, longer but necessary to be taken into serious consideration (an eventual smaller font wouldn't be unpolite). Also, a severe recall to NPOV should be added (not included above) in order to limit vandalism (specially on politic topics).
Better using final separate accents than accented vowels.
A "bad words filter" is highly reccommended.
