Will I have separate User pages on all Wikis?

--217.232.147.215 08:40, 25 March 2012 (UTC)

Yes (at least for the foreseeable future). --UV (talk) 13:41, 25 March 2012 (UTC)

Help! I have two SULs?

After requesting a name-change on en.wiki, I found that I have twos SULs, both of my old username and my new one. Is this normal? Cyan Gardevoir (talk) 05:55, 19 May 2012 (UTC)

Lost password for Wikisource and mediawiki

My name is Tony Woolrich (AKA Apwoolrich). I did quite a bit of work on Wikisource 2005-6, but the work lapsed because I was involved in non-Wiki activities.

I have been working in recent months on a project on WP, and want to place some reference texts on WS. When I try to logon to my user space, I can't because I don't remember the password, and WS can't send it to me because I have changed by email address, and my old one has lapsed. Its suggested I create a new user name, which I don't wish to do. I am sure there is a work around for this situation, but I can't find it. I have an idea there was talk about making a common logon for all Wikis. This is the logical place to go.

Is there a techie out there who can look up my password and email it to me, please. My email can be found via my Wikipedia page.

Any advice, please? Thanks 81.147.63.108 06:41, 19 May 2012 (UTC)

Two questions

Hi, folks. Two questions about SUL:

  1. Can a SUL registration ever be changed to a new username, or is it locked down forever on the username it was registered to? e.g., Let's say I create a SUL for User:Foo on enwiki. But that is the only wiki I ever create User:Foo on. Then, a bureaucrat renames me on enwiki to User:Renamed Foo. Since I had only ever created an account with my SUL on enwiki, will the SUL change over to User:Renamed Foo, or it will stay registered to User:Foo, even when there are no accounts on that username?
  2. I've read that in the event of SUL conflicts, the user with the most edits or higher permissions holds a 'claim' to the SUL. Is this a technical claim, and if so, how does it work? e.g., If you have two users (no advanced permissions), User:1 with 90 edits on the username, and User:2 with 100 on another wiki, and User:1 changes from 90 edits to 110, while User:2 stays at 100, does this mean User:1 can suddenly use Special:MergeAccount to re-register the SUL for themself?

Advanced thanks for your assistance. NTox · talk 18:05, 1 September 2012 (UTC)

Concerning question 1:
Before renaming you on enwiki to User:Renamed Foo, the bureaucrat should check whether
  1. there are no accounts "User:Renamed Foo" yet (neither a SUL account nor local accounts on other wikimedia projects) or
  2. there is no SUL account "User:Renamed Foo" yet, but there are local accounts "User:Renamed Foo" on other wikimedia projects or
  3. there is already a SUL account "User:Renamed Foo" (probably with local attached accounts as well).
In case 1, the bureaucrat may perform the rename. Afterwards, you should quickly log in to your "User:Renamed Foo" account, go to Special:MergeAccount and create a SUL account "User:Renamed Foo" in order to secure your username across all wikimedia projects.
In cases 2 and 3, the bureaucrat should only rename your account if you can show that the pre-existing accounts "User:Renamed Foo" belong to you. Otherwise, you (or the other "User:Renamed Foo") might run into problems.
If you create a SUL for User:Foo on enwiki and then a bureaucrat renames you on enwiki to User:Renamed Foo, your SUL account User:Foo remains. You can still use this SUL account to log in to any wikimedia project, including enwiki (thereby automatically creating a new enwiki account "User:Foo"). This behaviour serves to prevent others from taking the name "User:Foo". If you want to explicitly allow other users to take the "User:Foo" account name, you can request deletion of the empty SUL account "User:Foo" at Steward requests/SUL requests.
Concerning question 2:
This conflict resolution mechanism is applied at the time of creating the SUL account (only). So while there is no SUL account, a user on one wiki may surpass the edit counts of users with the same name on other wikis, go to Special:MergeAccount and create the SUL account for himself. But once a SUL account has been created, this conflict resolution mechanism is not applied any more.

Thank you for your prompt response, UV. You have successfully answered my questions. NTox · talk 19:43, 2 September 2012 (UTC)

Unified logOUT

Beautiful - Unified login. I love it. But there's something missing from the new users' view: there's no obvious info. about Unified logout before people decide to sign up...
I.e. the necessary FAQ/similar entry: "Does Unified login also mean we users have Unified logout? Yes."

I only finally saw that we do after I first logged out - but we need to include it up front! Both on this page (H:UL) and on the initial pages in the 'create user account' process (the classic case being Wikipedia) - having this feature is a bonus reason, for security at least, to get potential serious users interested in becoming account holders.

I'd love to Edit away with free abandon, adding as I go, but without knowing how many pages need adding to, I ask that the more experienced of us follow this up :)

Thanks super people,

FAQ: Do I still have separate user pages on the various language-specific wikis?

Or will there be only a single, global userpage over all language-wikipedias? Please specify that in the FAQ. --217.232.154.57 21:39, 7 October 2012 (UTC)
