Its a big problem, when userchecker use IP check only when want to ban somebody, who doesn't like... an made it personaly and only... 195.28.182.14 15:22, 14 October 2005 (UTC)Reply

Yeah. That's a policy matter - see m:CheckUser. This page is a user-manual page how to use the function - David Gerard 15:57, 14 October 2005 (UTC)Reply

A "sample" policy edit

If anyone interested, I translated (partialy) our huwp policy to english and linked from Talk:Proposed CheckUser Policy#My policy on huwiki, which is a talk page of a proposed policy anyway. --grin 17:05, 16 October 2005 (UTC)Reply

Log edit

Perhaps some help about the log would be useful - like who has access to it (presumably just people with checkuser status), what it displays, whether any part of it is internationalisable, and whether it's archivable (what happens when it gets really long?), etc. Angela 06:16, 19 October 2005 (UTC)Reply

That would be very helpful. I've recently installed CheckUser on our WIKI to more effectly block link spammers. However our PHP programers are currently very busy and I keep getting 'Unable to add log entry' error. I'm having a hard time finding documentation on troubleshooting this extension, any assistance would be appricated. GbnTechWIKI

Deleted pages edit

Is it possible to check the IP of a user if the contribution was deleted by an administrator? --Marsve 06:43, 4 January 2006 (UTC)Reply

Sadly not, which is somewhat annoying - David Gerard 12:51, 31 January 2006 (UTC)Reply

One Week! edit

How can edits made prior to "one week period" be shown? I mean is it possible to know the ip for a username before that one week period? --Ask 04:37, 27 July 2006 (UTC)Reply

(Hoping you already solved your problem) Increment $wgRCMaxAge. See mw:Manual:$wgRCMaxAge. --84.221.209.77 22:46, 3 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

Localization edit

I'm just wondering why the interface messages for this extensions (i.e. "User:", "No results") cannot be localized. Thanks for any answer. (I haven't find any more appropriated page for this question) --84.221.209.77 22:46, 3 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

Jimbo or Anthere? edit

I'm a bit hesitant to jump in and make a change, because I don't know enough, but Anthere changed Help:CheckUser at English Wikipedia last night. It now no longer reads that checkuser information will not be revealed except (among other examples):

To Jimbo Wales, his legal counsel, or his designee, when necessary for investigation of abuse complaints.

It has been changed to:

To the chair of the Foundation, her legal counsel, or her designee, when necessary for investigation of abuse complaints.

See the diff.

The English Wikipedia page says that it's a copy of the master page at Meta (which is what brought me here). Should the Meta page be changed? I wouldn't like to start pontificating on what the policy should say, but my instinct suggests that the information about IPs could be released to either Jimbo or Anthere on request. I'm just raising the issue here, because I think that someone who knows should edit one or both of the pages so that they are the same. ElinorD 20:40, 31 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

Well, nobody answered, and in the meantime I found this section from a page from Wikimedia Foundation, which seems to be fairly official, so I decided to be bold and edit it to bring it into line with the Foundation page, and with Anthere's edit to the en page. Request edit

Anywhere we could request a usercheck for other projects except the English wiki?--◂ ‎épine talk 22:15, 4 January 2018 (UTC)Reply

Please mark all the parts of the page for translation edit

Hi, Xaosflux and all. As the edit,Special:Diff/18441722, didn't mark all the parts of the page for translation, now I cant translate the page at all. Please mark the other parts, too. Thanks in advance.--miya (talk) 02:17, 9 October 2018 (UTC)Reply

@Miya: you are correct, the page needs translate markup - anyone can do this. Once done feel free to ping me to click the 'translate' button. — xaosflux Talk 11:49, 9 October 2018 (UTC)Reply

How to report a Wikipedian Checkuser who is suspected to use sockpuppet ? edit

Hi, I would like to ask how to file a report about a Checkuser on English Wikipedia that I suspect of using sockpuppet ? I know that a Wikipedian Checkuser is supposed to sign some agreement with Wikimedia foundation in order to obtain the status, but for some political reasons, a Checkuser could exploit his privilege by using sockpuppet without anybody even recognizing that. More importantly, people with Checkuser status are supposed to be very skilled at Internet Privacy and computer-related stuff. So it is very easy for a certain Checkuser to hide his own identity. And a Checkuser is the a person that is the least likely to be investigated by other Checkusers by conducting IP-check and inspecting other configurations of his webbrowser and computer. @Xaosflux:I'm pinging you b/c I see that you are an administrator here. Bookworm8899 (talk) 17:21, 23 October 2018 (UTC)Reply

@Bookworm8899: if you think a checkuser has violated foundation policies you can contact the Ombudsman commission. If you think that an English Wikipedia checkuser is violating a community policy on the English Wikipedia you can contact the w:en:Wikipedia:Arbitration_Committee#Contacting_the_Committee. — xaosflux Talk 17:42, 23 October 2018 (UTC)Reply
@Xaosflux:Thank you. The Checkuser I'm wanting to report is a long term troll on Reddit. I'm scared that the Ombudsman commission would not do anything about this because he (the Checkuser) only did very subtle intentionally just enough for me to realize that he has sockpuppet and a former troll on Reddit that I encountered, but the evidence might hardly convince the commission. Bookworm8899 (talk) 18:01, 23 October 2018 (UTC)Reply
Socking on enwiki is still against their project policies, so you can follow up with enwiki ArbCom. — xaosflux Talk 18:10, 23 October 2018 (UTC)Reply
