An item is a page in the main namespace of Wikidata.

It is multilingual, with a single url representing the page in all the languages in which the page is available. The language shown is the one that the user has specified in Wikidata as the preferred one. Therefore the title shown in large letters at the top is not in the url. For example, there is the item d:Q571 about the subject 'book', showing 'book (Q571)' in the English version, and 'Buch (Q571)' in the German version.

In d:Special:AllPages the items are ordered in alphabetical order of their number, not in numerical order.

On Wikidata the main page is not in the main namespace, since it is not an item. It is in the Wikidata namespace.
