Grants talk:TPS/Oarabile Mudongo/Innovation Africa Digital (IAD) Summit 2014
Request not funded
editDear Oarabile:
Thank you for this thoughtful request, and for your ongoing participation and contributions to Wikimedia projects. We appreciate that you’ve secured additional funding to support your attendance and have submitted a well-documented request; however, the committee has decided not to fund this request based on the following decision-making criteria, which are explained on the Travel and Participation Support page:
- Potential outcomes and impact: We do not expect that “recruiting new volunteers and offering mentorship on editing, contributing and community engagement” is a likely outcome of attendance at this event. After reviewing the attendees and outcomes from this event in the past, we do not think these attendees are likely to be a good target audience for effectively engaging new or existing contributors to Wikimedia projects.
- Investment: We appreciate that Wikimedians who attend offline events can help raise general awareness of Wikimedia in Africa, but this type of impact does not justify the relatively high-cost of international travel unless it complements other significant outcomes.
We welcome future requests from you, and so we encourage you to think about your target audience strategically when planning future requests that support your aim to improve Wikimedia and grow the movement in your region. We also encourage you to submit requests a bit further in advance, when possible, so we may better support you and your work. Best wishes, Jtud (WMF) (talk) 20:20, 14 March 2014 (UTC)
