Comments from I JethroBT (WMF) edit

Hello Wikimedia Nigeria, and thanks for this proposal for Wiki Loves Africa 2020. I am glad that the Wikimedia Nigeria Foundation is continuing to participate in this important campaign. Apologies that we did not follow up sooner on reviewing this proposal. Here are my comments and questions:

  • What are the main prizes described in the budget? Please keep in mind that cash prizes are ineligible for funding.
-Yes, we agreed with you that cash prizes are not permitted as a gift/prize by the WMF, so as a practice in our previous Wiki Loves completions: We are proposing prizes like, android phone, photo printer, Hard Drive, Power Pack etc
  • What are the expenses associated with the Launch budget item?
  1. Mini Hall ( 30-40 Capacity) 150USD
  2. Internet ( 30 G) – 49.90 USD ( Data plan)
  3. Alternative Power Supply – 62USD
  • What are the expenses associated with the Photo Hunt, Uploads and Editathon budget item?

We estimated at most 15 participants from each location

  1. Refreshment- 100USD (6.56USD/person)
  2. Internet (15G)- 24.95
  3. Contingency - 38.5 (This will take care of items such transport, phone call charges, banner etc)
  • What expenses will do you expect to be able to obtain receipts for, and which ones are likely to be unreceipted?

The following item will be receipted:

  1. Internet
  2. Alternative Power supply
  3. Refreshment

The Following will are likely to be unreceipted

  1. Transport
  2. Phone call charges
  • Wikimedia Nigeria has been participating in WLA since 2015. Compared to past years, what has been working well with your WLA program? How will this year's event be different, or how will this event address problems or obstacles you've encountered in past events?
This year competition will show our communal diversity in term of the inclusion and participation of the entire Wiki Clubs/hubs in Nigeria. In 2019, Wikimedia Nigeria took the first position in term of photo contributions though only one of our clubs participated. Since organizing Wiki Loves Earth 2019, our community has been involving professional photographers in our entire Wiki Loves event, this year (2020) will not be an exception.
  • If this is funded, the start date of the grant will need to be adjusted in order for us to fund the grant. Please adjust the dates so there is enough time for you to respond to the above questions and for us to review them.
Done and thank you for all the questions Wikimedia Nigeria (talk) 09:30, 17 January 2020 (UTC)Reply

When you're able, please respond to the questions above. With thanks, I JethroBT (WMF) (talk) 05:49, 17 January 2020 (UTC)Reply

This project is not affected by COVID19 edit

@I JethroBT (WMF):, We are glad to inform you that all the physical activities of this project have been concluded before the WMF announcement on COVID19. We only experienced a delay in the process of organising the review of the submitted photos for the event due to the effects of the pandemic on many members of our community, especially, the organizing committee. Currently, our panel of Jury is reviewing all the submitted photos for the contest. We, therefore, request for an extension of one more month to clear the ongoing task. Thanks for your understanding. Wikimedia Nigeria (talk) 15:00, 27 May 2020 (UTC)Reply

@Wikimedia Nigeria: Thank you for this update and clarification regarding your activities related to the COVID-19 pandemic. The disruptive nature of the pandemic has been fairly widespread and sustained, so we are happy to provide extensions where your activities have been delayed or disrupted related to the pandemic. The original due date for your report was 30 April 2020, but I will amend this to be about a one month extension from today. Your final report will now be due on 26 June 2020. If additional time is needed, Please let us know before your next due date, and we will be happy to grant it. I JethroBT (WMF) (talk) 16:33, 27 May 2020 (UTC)Reply
@I JethroBT (WMF): Our apologies for the delayed report, our Jury concluded their task last week, 3rd July 2020. So, we can not meet up our earlier promise. Can we extend this project for another one month to finalise our report and present gift to the winners of the contest? Wikimedia Nigeria (talk) 06:23, 6 July 2020 (UTC)Reply
@Wikimedia Nigeria: Thanks for your request. This extension until 6 August 2020 has been granted, but I want to note that this request was made more than week after the prior extension due date. It is important to make extension requests before your due date so as to not run into any compliance issues related to future grant proposals from your user group.
