Grants talk:Project/Rapid/Wikimedia Hub Owerri/South East Edit-a-thon
Comments from I JethroBT (WMF)
editHello Ptinphusmia, and thanks for your proposed events at the Wikimedia Hub Owerri in Imo State, a newer hub for Wikimedia activities in Nigeria. Here are my comments and questions:
- In the infobox, can you change the grant type be an "organization" grant instead of a "group" grant? Wikimedia Hub Owerri is a part of Wikimedia Nigeria User Group, and that the proposal will rely on the participation from some of the user group's leadership, so it makes sense to have this grant categorized as such. I've already checked to make sure the user group is not exceeding the limit of total open Rapid Grants, and it is currently not.
- What is the space that will be rented out for the events in Owerri?
- You've described that you have past experience organizing events for Wikimedia projects. What projects have you organized or supported before?
Let me know if you need more clarity around these questions. Thanks, I JethroBT (WMF) (talk) 08:49, 12 December 2020 (UTC)
Thank you, I JethroBT (WMF) for your comment.
Firstly, I am glad to clarify that this grant will be submitted as an individual grant. Truly, Wikimedia Hub, Owerri was established by Wikimedia User Group Nigeria to foster the awareness of Wikimedia related projects in states across Nigeria where little or no Wikimedia activities exist at the moment. We started in 2020 with 66 people, and this event will be the first official training to be organised by the hub.
The Wikimedia Nigeria role in this project is the provision of experienced Wikimedians, aside from this, all other activities will be handled by the hub.
I have assisted in organising many events in Nigeria, such as WikiIndaba 2019, 2020 Wiki4climate online edit-a-thon (find here- https://docs.google.com/document/d/1BTTIIqXwSsoiDG1g43zBb8KOelMvNiWkLCyxJBRMOSo/edit?usp=drivesdk), and a 2-day online movement strategy discussions (find here-https://drive.google.com/file/d/1nVty8-RfqshX3JA6qVYRbxRrM6aI8sNK/view?usp=sharing) for wikimedia Igbo Usergroup.
However, since this event will be organised with the support of some experienced Wikipedians in the country, I am sure this model will help to cushion any knowledge gaps that might arise in the process of organising this event.
A hall for 25 people will be rented but the hall should be able to accommodate 50 people to ensure COVID-19 pandemic safeguard measure such as social distancing Ptinphusmia (talk) 07:00, 15 December 2020 (UTC)
