Grants talk:Project/Rapid/Wikimedia Ghana User Group / Post-WMCon 17 Meeting/Report

Comments from I JethroBT (WMF) edit

Hi Sandiooses, and thanks for the report on this meeting of WMCon 2017 participants to share insights from the conference and conduct training for individuals wishing to promote Wikimedia across Ghana. Please accept my apologies for the delay in reviewing your report; our team is understaffed at the moment and I have been away on parental leave until just recently. Here are my comments on your report:

  • Thanks for adding the changes that were made to schedule compared to your initial plans. Given your goals for the meeting, it sounds like it was a great idea to create space for session on ambassador work, and I imagine there was much to be shared on these specific topics from the Wikimedia Conference.
  • I am so glad to hear that everyone who was invited to attend was able to come to the meeting and was able to gain the benefits of engaging with you and other attendees. I realize it is difficult to arrange events, even single day ones, for groups that are sufficiently large.
  • Thanks also for providing some photos from the meeting (those donuts look really delicious!)
  • What kind of feedback did you get from meeting participants who came to learn how to be ambassadors? What sort of questions were asked of current ambassadors during some of the sessions?
Hello I JethroBT (WMF), Some of the feed I got is a first session in February 2018 is being planned and according to Jaward who is in Tamale in the northern part of Ghana, it will focus on editing and "planning session, as well to get the new recruits invoked [involved] in planning out regular meetups for continuous skill building."Sandiooses (talk) 23:19, 15 December 2017 (UTC)Reply
Noahalorwu, Usman Ibrahim Khalilulahi and Elizabeth want to focus on "setting up offline Wikipedia, Wiktionary, Species etc servers in labs for SHS to enable offline access to Wikipedia and its sister projects in remote areas in Kumasi. which is the Ashanti region of Ghana. Just like how those of us in Accra have a partnership with Impact Hub Accra, they are considering HapaSpace in Kumasi. They also decided to have an event early next year.Sandiooses (talk) 23:19, 15 December 2017 (UTC)Reply

Will you be following-up with meeting participants to help them set up events in their communities? Yes

  • Is this kind of post-conference meeting something the User Group would like arrange again in the future? If so, are there areas aside from training and reporting from the Wikimedia Conference that would be useful for Wikimedians or readers of Wikimedia projects in Ghana?
Yes. I think readers are often left out. So it will be worth looking at it.Sandiooses (talk) 23:19, 15 December 2017 (UTC)Reply

This report is officially approved, but when you are able, please respond to my question above. Thanks very much for your work, Sandiooses, and I am glad the meeting was a success. I JethroBT (WMF) (talk) 08:21, 7 November 2017 (UTC)Reply
