Grants talk:Project/Rapid/UG CI/1Lib1Ref 2018 sessions in Côte d'Ivoire/Report

Comments from I JethroBT (WMF) edit

@African Hope: Hi Samuel, and thanks for your report on this series of 1Lib1Ref sessions. Here are my comments on your report:

  • Thanks for sharing some very specific outcomes related to engagement in this campaign. Specifically, it's great to see some statistics related to engagement with social media posts, the degree to which women represented in these events, and participation by professionals associated with library staff and information sciences. Thank you also for being sensitive to the growing interest in these events and deciding to give another opportunity for these experts to learn about and contribute to our projects.
  • I'm especially impressed that you have already found two partners who want to expand your work into pilot GLAM projects-- these connections and interest are important achievements for the user group and for French Wikipedia.
  • It is easy to see you have been very thoughtful in your reflections about this project concerning budgeting and handling unexpected circumstances. My impression is that, when faced with unexpected circumstances or problems, you were able to devise new plans to adapt as best as you were able. This is a skill and a kind of effort we appreciate seeing in grantees. Concerning the additional spending that the user group had to absorb, I did want to let you know that for future grants, should you find yourself without sufficient funds to complete your project, that you can notify us at rapidgrants wikimedia.org to request additional funds during your grant (but not afterwards!) along with an explanation of what the additional funds will be used for. We are generally able to give out an additional 10% of your total budget to cover things like unforeseen expenses or sudden changes in prices. I realize this would not have covered all the additional costs you had in this project, but I want to make sure you are aware that some of the burden can be reduced should you find yourself in a similar situation in the future.

I am happy to approve this report, and appreciate the excellence with which you have completed this project. Thanks so much for your work in preparing these events and inviting librarians and information scientists to understand and contribute to our projects.
