Hi, Myxomatosis0, thank you for submitting this final report and your expense documentation. I have reviewed and accepted both. Congratulations, this grant is now complete! Below are some comments and questions for you to review at your convenience.

Comments and Questions

  1. Thank you for submitting such a detailed report! Even though you did not meet your participation goals, it sounds like the event was a success, both from the perspective of how many articles were created or improved and from the perspective of how engaged the participants seem to be.
  2. Keeping food hot over a long event is tricky! For future events, in addition to looking into ways to keep the food warm, you could consider a few alternatives:
    • Have food delivered two or three times throughout a day-long event, rather than just once.
    • Serve hot food at the first meal or coffee break and cold food at the second.
  3. Your observations about the things that did not work so well are very insightful and will undoubtedly help other grantees organizing edit-a-thons.
    • Your observation about how the participants who didn't bring laptops were physically isolated from the group, and, therefore, may not have had as good an experience as others was a good reminder of the importance of making sure that event spaces are as inclusive as possible. What are some possible ways to ensure that people without laptops can still be included in the same room?
    • As you noted, it's a great idea to ask ahead of time if any of the participants have a physical disability or will need some sort of accommodation to participate. That ensures that the event doesn't unintentionally exclude anyone who might want to participate but wouldn't be able to without a few adjustments.
    • Also, asking in advance about something like that, or whether participants have any special meal preferences (vegetarian, vegan, etc.), will help save you time when you organize the event. If you know those things aren't needed then you don't have to spend extra time arranging them.
  4. Do you have a plan for continuing to engage the participants from the edit-a-thon?

Thank you for all your hard work on this grant, and for sharing what you learned with WMF and the community. We would be happy to receive any additional updates you would like to share!
